antno
was wondering what boost pressures people are running with the first cat still in? my car was set up to run at 1.1 on the high boost setting. i haven't checked to seen whether the cat has been gutted but the car is very quiet i think for the diameter of the exhaust system (cat back). i was suffering from over-boost when i bought the car but that could be down to set up or a dodgy boost solenoid. i have only driven the car for a couple of days since i bought it so haven had chance to have a play. car is 96 tt 6 jspec with inter cooler, exhaust, f con silver, hks evc3 and i think it has a uprated fuel pump but haven't checked yet. cheers antno
tomgeer
Mine still hits 1.4 bar with the cat in, I have to use a custom made restrictor ring to bring it down to 1bar and a EBC set to 1.2bar. I've just removed the cat last weekend and the boost levels have stayed the same although it feels a bit more responsive now.
Nic
The 1st cat is very restrictive, the exhaust gas temps could be getting dangerously high at 1.1bar.
antno
The 1st cat is very restrictive, the exhaust gas temps could be getting dangerously high at 1.1bar. this is what i was wondering about? whats a safe level? also i take it the car gets much louder without the cats? i know turbos in general rreduce the noise but wondering if it would be obvious if it was gutted. id say i have a 3- 3.5 pipe with a 5 inch tip. apexi system but dont know what spec apexi. cheers antno
