creative
Thought you may like to see my little drama I am having with the ute. It's had a rattle for ages now and I thought it was the tensioners and chains. I changed these out and put in an updated oil pump at the same time. It didn't cure the rattle.. I got the shits with it and thought, stuff it, it dies it dies..... It died! Just been to see my mech that's pulling it apart and found... Crank. Some of the shot bearings/caps Oil pick up.. Spun the bearings on the front 2 cylinders and cylinder 1 rod/big ends were oval! Having the block looked at tomoz to make sure the bores are ok. Rather than grinding the crank etc, I'm getting a fully forged bottom end comprising of crank, pistons, rods, arp bolts, bearings and fitting an uprated clutch whilst it's out. Should be good for upto 900hp. Overkill, yes, but once I pay the loan off on it I will be supercharging it so may as well do it all now. Actual kit is .... 1500 HP Forged Steel Racing Crankshaft (6 or 8 bolt) by Kellogg 100% US made - NOT CHINESE like EAGLE or SCAT! MANLEY^ 4340 Forged H-beam Rods with ARP Bolts MANLEY Forged Pistons with tool steel Pins Total Seal Rings Clevite Performance Rod and Main bearings Already have a mellings uprated oil pump and metal chain tensioners fitted as this is what I thought the problem was. Why did it do this? I think the original ford oil pump wasn't upto the job. The damage was already done by the time I put the uprated jobby in and it just got worse over time. Oil pressure etc was checked before it got pulled apart and that was fine.

creative
Well it's ordered! Full kit including a competition clutch for the same price as stock internals from the states. Shipping was a killer but this engine will be able to handle upto 900hp on the bottom end when completed. Now to save for the charger! Just don't tell the missus I have sunk the same cost as her car was into the engine alone...
Noz
how come these bearings went, were they stock ones or were you pushing the limits of stock internals?
creative
how come these bearings went, were they stock ones or were you pushing the limits of stock internals? Car was completely stock. I have done 180k km in it though but these engines had a habit of failing oil pumps. A common upgrade is a Mellings oil pump to combat this but by the time I did it, I think it was too late and it just got worse until the rattles turned into a knock. I was kind of expecting it but I was hoping it would hold out a lot longer! I have the original pump here so I may strip it down to see if it had or was starting to fail. Never mind, at least I can claim the rebuild in this years tax return to pay it all off straight away! The missus also got me my birthday present this week, an optima yellow top. Should help to drive the 2x15's I am installing. She looked at me strange when I ask for a battery as a present.
creative
After waiting for my stuff to turn up from the states, it has finally arrived! Oooo... Shiney! On top of the full rotating assembly, i have just ordered a set of ARP head studs so the block is completely ready for any future upgrades! Pistons are with the machine shop, so i guess the rebuild begins on monday. Cant wait to get it back!
creative
Managed to get to the mechanics before he closed today and grabbed a couple of pics .... First box of goodies: In this box was: Total seal rings.. Clevite Performance rod and main bearings.. I count 8.... 4340 Forged H-beam Rods with ARP Bolts (????) I am querying these though as they are supposed to be Manley rods.... Full rebuild gasket kit 1500hp forged steel Racing crank by kellogg ARP full headstud kit.. My big orange clutch... Good for 500hp and suppose to have a peddle like stock: And finally my birthday present from the missus, Optima yellow top battery.. Block is back from the machine shop tomorrow hopefully. Only about a week behind schedule now. I was hoping to have it back by friday but we estimate wed/thurs next week providing there are no issues. Edit: after a bit of searching, the rods are definately Not Manley rods as advertised but after looking over the MMR website it would appear that these are the MMR rods that are good for 900hp, apparently. An email being sent i think....
