Today I came across a problem with the 6 speed supra gearbox on my car, after driving on motorway approx 100miles, I come to a stop in town to park my car and all of a sudden I lost all gears, even with the car off I cant get the car in gear, any one know what could be wrong I have brought the car home now almost removed the gearbox to have a proper look, but would just like some feedback on what to expect, the car has an exedy twin plate clutch what makes noises that normal twin plate clutches do and gearbox did not make any grinding noises during the journey.

help appreciated.

yep thats the only noise mine makes too only when the clutch is depressed can hear the release bearing and slight rattle during low rpms, apart from this driving was fine

Without wanting to patronise or anything, I'm assuming you'd checked the gear linkage?

well thats the problem the selector shaft does not select any gears no more even with the shifter removed.

Assuming the box has oil in it? The only case I've seen that happen was on a dry box, the selector shaft siezed up with the heat.

Sounds like a strip down and inspect job I'm afraid.

I removed the box now of the can and the box still got oil in it, the main input shaft that the clutch fits to is only spinning clockwise I cannot twist the shaft anti clockwise, so I do not know what this means any ideas? could it be its stuck in reverse? I did try to stick it in reverse gear when it failed on me yesterday then it would not select any gears.

It should spin in both directions, in any gear. It sound's like a selector fork has jammed. The only way you can sort it is by stripping the box down for a rebuild. It's not very often the 6 speeds fail, what kind of power were you putting through it? Did it get abused etc?

im scared to open it might give it to someone that knows what they are doing and will update on what went wrong when I find out

I'd recommend you do that if you are not familiar with the box, I'd certainly wouldn't want to dive in and have a look without knowing what I should be looking for & what isn't correctly in place. :)

You have a few options being in Kent too! Infact messaging Supraturbochris and see if he can take a look at it for you (His based in Kent).

found the problem, turned out to be a bent reverse selector rod which got pushed in more than it should, on the reverse and knocked the gears and scyncros out of place, I also managed to find a place in harrow, middlesex area area who can actually build these gearboxes for a very good price, the guy working on my box rebuilt one years ago and is familiar with getrags.
