Got about 4 weeks to wait for it, I have asked him for a very detailed helmet based on the film donnie darko. Some of the ideas and colours we have spoken about are going to be incredible. Really can't wait to see it

Im sure anyone who knows about airbrushing will know who darren is.

Watch this space for the pictures

Do you mind me asking how much it's costing you? And is it MSA-certified?

He is charging me £345, which compared to some quotes I have had is exceptional. Jlf design quoted me £1050 for the same job, he paints lewis hamiltons helmets.

Darren has a really good reputation and has done some very high profile work like james bond films, executive jets, major car manufacturers etc

Not sure what the msa certified means?

In for the pics mate if its a top job i may consider this aswell!

I knew I wanted it done when I brought my yellow ride before you buy arai rx7gp. As donnie darko is my favourite film it made sense, plus it will be nice knowing it's probably the only one in the world based on that film, I have searched the tinternet trying to find another.

Interesting. That's brilliant value. I've been looking to get my race lid sprayed for ages but like you have been given some silly quotes.

The MSA bit means is it OK for competitive racing... but I suppose if he does Hamilton's lids then it is.

Darren doesn't do hamiltons lids that's jlf. He does do other racing drivers though.

He has a website and if you search for darren horton design you can see some of the work he does.

Well it is finally done, I'm blown away. The quality and attention to detail is incredible the pictures really dont do it justice, once the sunlight hits it the pearls all come out. He had laid the images out perfectly and done such things as put veins in the eyes and othe complex details you wouldn't expect.

The final price... well it went up a bit from the original 335 to a whooping £600, but it is a one off piece of art.

When I saw the first picture, I thought the theme was the Twilight films! :D

Very nicely done that, and a great film :) (Donnie Darko, not the Twilights :D )

Thanks, he has captured the film really well with those 3 images, the colours work so well also. It is my favourite film

My bro had his helmet done by Richard Stevens who does the majority of World Superbike and Moto GP riders lids :)

WOW! Lovely work. Looks great :)

Some people spend a fortune on an dusty old picture that hangs off a wall. I'm totally agree with you to have art on something practical like thats is a very neat idea.

Thanks Ed. Now to get matching helicopter canopies lol

I did that once. LOL

Had a guy in the US spray a canopy like a WW2 Japanese fighter with bullet holes and weathering etc....

Had the frame painted in red and all matching components. Looks so smart.

Faulty speed control made the power snatch and the blades folded clipping the canopy and cracked a nice chunk off. Gutted :(
