DJT88
They didn't stop me yet.... The benefit of living in the Netherlands is that Germany is just an hour away. Keeps me from gunning it at home. Did have a go on the Autobahn last week. The flow of most Germans is already 115 mph, so long journeys do shorten significantly.

letmeshowyou
Lucky guy Everyone else, is posting about breaking the speed limit on a public forum such a good idea? Let's hope your insurance companies don't look on here
Gaz6002
+1, turn all of our motorways into autobahn rules I can't imagine anything more terrifying. We need a huge hike in driver education standards before that can work safely.
pbryant_knight
I think he just showed a bit of cleavage to get away with a simple fine That said, you're right about the speed rules. They were brought into force when cars were.......well.......naff. they've never updated them. Speed doesn't kill, bad drivers do. I refer to an incident when i seen a car doing around 80 - 85 slam his brakes on when he saw a speed camera and the car behind went into the back etc. 5 car pileup all because there wasa camera there. All the trafic was flowing smoothly at that speed. Peter
letmeshowyou
The pileup is because of bad driving, not because of the camera!
grahamc
I can't imagine anything more terrifying. We need a huge hike in driver education standards before that can work safely. Education? I think we need to go a lot further... With the general drivers in this country, there is NO way de-restriction should happen. Have you seen how close most people sit to the steering wheel? The airbag will kill them if the sudden stop does not. So in short, completely agree with you! No. Lack of knowledge on stopping distances and following distances is the cause of the accident... in other words, "bad driving"!!
Graham1984
As stated before if they increase the speed limit to say 85mph you will still get people flouting that and pushing 100mph all the time so where would it end. The limit at the moment is 70 and people still do 80/85 so increasing the limit will only push them sorts of people further towards 100mph or above and as we all know some of the people on the roads are not the sharpest knifes in the drawer. Guest suprasteven
Sorry but in the case of the speed camera its not bad driving at all if there was a higher respected limit their would be no need for sudden breaking which i see happening loads aroun london!! the reality is that the speed limits are very old and people can go faster and safer at the same time especially on the motorway!! People forget to mention the ones that run across the street not on a zebra crossing these cause accidents not the driver going 10mph more than he should have!! Abz
+1, turn all of our motorways into autobahn rules Agree!! I can't imagine anything more terrifying. No way in hell should they increase the speed limits, as mentioned the driving levels in this country are shocking. I can not believe some of the people who are driving on the road with a license that shouldn't have one in the first place. If you don't think the level of driving is shocking just pop across the Ferry to France. On the motorway (which most seem to be 2 lanes) the driving standard is superb, and I love the lane indiscipline. People are so quick to cut back into the side lane after overtaking and if someone is on the overtaking lane, then they are overtaking. Only just earlier on today en-route to a wedding, the amount of people I saw driving on the far right lane when the the first lane was completely empty was beyond me. As you drive past them as well, you can see how they are completely oblivious to their surroundings or generally on the mobile phone, or having a chinwag with the passengers... these are the people who cause accidents. i got caught doing 135, two bold tyres, 3points and £187 fine thank you very much You sir (in the most polite way) are an idiot. Do you not open your eyes when you're driving? And yes the cars are more than capable of performing above the limits, but the drivers? Maybe not. I drive at 70/75 on the motorway, largely for mpg purposes but also because there's absolutely no point in going any faster. Anyone round the Oxford area will tell you how scary the M40 is on an evening, particularly the A34 junction. Not saying I'm a saint by any means, I just save my speed for other occasions. Yes i agree but that depends on area, times etc I have my eyes very open while driving especially in london All i am saying is you cant blame everything on speed and yes at times there is no point is flooring it but surely there should be harsher punishment for real idiots with bad habbits etc like mobile phones that wack into the back of you and those who actully pay attention can enjoy their ride a little faster

People have no common courtesy of other drivers No awareness of other drivers or their surrounding No awareness of the road, conditions limitations to them selves or their cars The education in this country is shocking, they way people are taught is a joke and its beyond me how people can drive the way they do

Pig
i say bold, still had tred, to be honest was the 1st and last time ive done it, i rarely go over 70 Why do it on the way to the garage when you could do it on the way back when you have had the car checked and are sure it is mechanically sound and tested by a professional and more to the point when you had rubber with legal tread depth.
