I'm glad you have that outlook as many of your colleagues don't and seem to think they are better than any civilian. But I'm with you on the what will be will be! I choose to do the job I do and except the conciseness of the risks involved and no matter what the public do or say I just rise above it! I think it is a hard job you do and one I wouldn't choose to do! :)

Cheers mate, your right, some think they are better than those they serve, I make a point of informing them who they work for if i see it.

How has this discussion got out of hand? I think it's quite illuminating. I have great respect for the police who do what seems to be a very difficult job while jumping through hoops to do it, and IF I get caught speeding by them then so be it, it's a fair cop. We're lucky to hear the 'off the record' opinions of a police officer on here.

Ok maybe not 'out of hand,' but we (yes those of you that didn't already know i'm a police officer) are a very easy target. Its very interesting to hear peoples different views and opinions about the police, however inaccurate, prejudiced or in fact honest they may be.

Its extremely unfortunate, that there are a handful of officers whose attitudes are all wrong, it just gets a little tiresome having to defend a very big organisation.

I have always wanted to know so will point this towards Supra Gaz /Monkpower I guess you both might have seen a episode or two of Motorway Cops / Traffic Cops on BBC and at the end it tells you what happened to the offenders so many of the cases that when you watch the program you think they are F* idiots and are going to get sent down big time for stolen car,car chase red lighting speeding etc and then you hear the cps decided not to take it further always makes me wonder why? they have all the footage the whole nation just watched it on bbc , it must make the police officer that did the arrest furious that these people walk free when really they should not.

In response to Justin Bieber (there's something i never thought i would type), we have many many rules regarding plain clothes work, basically everything we do should fall down the lines of it needs to be Proportionate, Legal, Accountable and Necessary, or PLAN, the job has too many acronyms and this one makes me laugh as the bosses do not have a plan, they dont even have a clue.

Chaz, i have seen a couple of those shows but try to avoid them, mainly because of what you mention, once we do our bit investigating, finding the suspect and writing for several weeks we present the case to the Crown Prosecution Service who throw the job out, in some cases they do take cases to court but it is mainly done on whether it will be in the public interest, financially beneficial (i.e minor offences but require specialist evidence) and likely to win at court. If they cant cover it they don't bother. Its annoying for all involved, probably the CPS too.

That's a result! To me all the actual traffic police that pull me are ok and have an interest in the car but others just seam to begrudge me owning such a car! But it just depends on the officer as Gaz said can't tar the whole organisation with the same brush! How often do any of us feel the need to come in hear and voice our opinions of good police work!? Not often! As I said not a job I relish or would choose to do!

If I was a police officer, I'd be locked up myself on the second day! How you guys deal with some imbeciles is beyond me, I'd give them a beating & say "This is old school my friend!!" and if you guys met Monk you wouldn't want him going Old Skool on you!!

:D
