F-15 flys home with one wing

seen that before. Shame the US are scrapping the F-15s for F-22s that are so unreliable.

Amazing video.

I wouldn't be suprised if the F15 lasts longer than the F22. IMO the F22 was a complete waste of money for the US, it was too far ahead of its time, they would have been far better going for the F15 Silent Eagle.

Don't get me started on the F35! :D

Which part? :D

With F22, the US got an extremely advanced aircraft, that pioneered many new technologies and could out perform anything then available or conceivable at the time. The development costs where staggering, but pale compared to the costs of operating the fleet. The aircraft are so valuable, so expensive to operate and so fragile that it is impractical to use them in a foreign conflict. The othe aircraft the US operate, the F18, F15 and F16 are more than capable of enforcing almost any no fly zone.

Other than the F22, The F15 was (until the Typhoon) the best air defence fighter and interceptor in the world. It still ranks right up there with the best, which makes the F22 seem embarrassingly expensive.

As for the F35, The project costs seem to escalate almost weekly. The carrier version can't land on a carrier, and the STOVL version has such a compromised payload and fuel capacity to make it worthless. Then there's the impact this has had on our Carrier procurement...

For the time being at least, the Su-35S (latest descendant of the Su-27) has recently gone into full production and on paper easily outclasses the most up to date variant of the F15, added to that the MiG-35D (latest descendant of the MiG-29) is almost ready for production and that outclasses the F16 and F18. To make matters worse the T-50 (a completely new Russian jet designed to outclass the F22) is slated to enter production in 2015, and because its being joint funded by India that means within four years the Indian air force will have planes superior to anything the USAF has, this should really be sending alarm bells ringing in washington that the US needs new planes lol.

The Typhoon is still hugely reigned in, wont be years until we see the true potential of that platform. Mainly software issues. But its already a generation behind anyway.

Plus dont you think the MOD had the pinnacle of S/VTOL in the Harrier? An aircraft that went through so many stages of development it was the default ground attack aircraft? Killed off for no reason I can fathom other than to make space for the F-35.

For the time being at least, the Su-35S (latest descendant of the Su-27) .

So you havent seen the SU -37 then? Having been in a privelige position to get paid to go to airshows round the world, the -37 is just unbelievable to watch, basically it just defies physics. But again its from a bygone era of dog fighters, modern air power is all missiles from many miles away.

Dont forget the Chinese J-20 either

oh yes, plane talk! :D

hummm,....

talk dirty so more!

Apparently as well, the US Navy had a problem with F-14 pilots and navigators after flight. More often then not, thay had a seemingly overwhelming desire to get oiled up and play homoerotic games of beach volleyball for most of the early evening, as opposed to spending time with their wives and girlfriends. Consequently, they were always late for their tea (and didn't have time to have a shower either).

That is also true.

So you havent seen the SU -37 then?

Yeah but its outdated now, the 37 was basically a standard 35 with prototype thrust vectoring engines used to test their performance, its technology was later used in the 35-BM/35-S. It is quite odd that the mid 90's prototype used the 37 name but no production version did and later models carried on using 35, but I have no answer for it lol.
