Guest BenZagorski
Hi Folks, The other day I noticed a squeal coming from the engine and thinking it was just the fan belt slipping or perhaps a pulley problem but now I've just looked and seen that he actual fan seems to have slipped back and it's getting wedged against one of the pulleys ?!?! No wonder it's sounding like I've got a dying cat in there. Anyway not being at all mechanical I was wondering firstly how this could have happened and secondly is it something I can fix myself? I've attached a picture showing just how far the fan seems to have slipped back and just how much I've worn away where it has stuck. Any advice really welcome :-)
Guest BenZagorski
This gives a better idea of the fan alignment. Does it look too close to the engine? Seems like a lot of fan outside of the cowling. Edited April 13, 2012 by BenZagorski typos (see edit history)
Dnk
Is the fan blade loose on the viscous coupling ? looks okay to me
Guest BenZagorski
Is the fan blade loose on the viscous coupling ? looks okay to me Everything seems pretty solid. On the engine there is a large pulley with a small pulley directly behind it. It's this large pulley that the fan is hitting and it's doing so by a good 3/4" Might try giving the fan bit of a knock back, perhaps it's slipped down it's mounting. keron
looks like in one of the pics, the crank pulley has separated and the outer part has come foward touching the fan blade??
keron
yep defo 100% the crank pulley is no good. dont drive the car or you will cause more damage! the belt is not even on there...it must havve slipped off and is not running on the right part/hense the squeel.... you will need a new pulley and fan blade.... Guest BenZagorski
Thanks folks...best get that credit card out. Where is best to get these bits?
Dnk
Dont knock the fan, the fan blade is bolted to the viscous coupling and the coupling fits onto water pump. Is the water pump pulley loose, take the tension off the belt and see if you can move the wp pulley Ignore the above if its the crank pulley, youve got better eyes than me as i cant see that lol I can see it now lol so agree with the cp being shot Edited April 13, 2012 by Dnk (see edit history)

Guest BenZagorski
Hey folks I'm back up and running again. Many thanks to Keron for supplying the parts. I ended up getting a garage to remove the old pulley and install the new one plus a new fan and belt and they only charged me an hours labour which is fair enough. I did try to have a go myself but utterly futile......you've gotta give these things a go haven't you?
