The half solved speedo mystery...

Hi all

So when I bought the car from Hoff, he explained about the speedo issue and the lights not working on the cluster. Not a problem from reading on here knew the speedo issues it was going to be either a loose connection or a dodgy speed converter/delimiter.

So on my lunch break armed with Hecklers dash guide I decided to tackle it, easy peasy getting the pannels off and the dash cluster out.

This is what I found:

black box:

How it attaches to the speedo cluster:

the dash connectors:

however after removing the connections from the back of the speedo, the little black box isnt actually attached to the car, I just pulled right out and I was left with this:

The wires look like they were connected at some stage, but couldnt see anything behind the dash to see where they had previously connected or any cut wires on the connectors to the instument cluster.

So we have a pink wire, and 2 red/blue wires:

Now I assume that with these removed and the screws replaced on the back of the instrument cluster the car should now have a funcioning speedo that reads in km/h rather than MPH and the car will be limited to 112mph? (Jspec)

any suggestions would be good I dont even know if this one actually works or if its worth connecting up?

Or is it just worth speaking to Jurgen and see if he supplies converters/delimiters.

Cheers

Si

Are there any cut wires on the back of the odo plug?

Not that I can see, doesnt appear to be any wires cut or spliced, when you can see in the picture is it, the rest of the loom is still wrapped in the black factory tape and dusty. Cant see anywhere on any of the 3 connector blocks where this could have been spliced in.

Unless wires have been pulled from the connector blocks?

Right the speedo now works fine, albiet reading in km/h until I can get a nice new converter.

Now getting the flashing OD light and engine management light on, checked error codes and as suspected its the usual 42 speed sensor issue, car runs fine. Now when I turn the side lights/headlights on the odo display goes off.

Good times!
