How to change a 6 speed to a TH400

Will you be installing a Transbrake kit?

Probably not, unless I also install a 2-step at the same time to limit the rpm to say 4000rpm, so that the launch would not be too harse on the tires and drivetrain.

My mate with a similar setup has got low 1.5's just driving off the line.

Mine also has the manual valve body so the only electrics used on the trans is the Digital Dakota SENS-01 (screws in at left rear of trans) used to send the speed signal to the Digital Dakota converter for the odo/speedo. Do BL provide a speed sender unit with the auto you bought?

I took it down the 1/4 and it is very slow off the line. :( The only timed run due to timing equipment issues at the track was a 2.4 60ft when just flooring it from idle. Holding it at 3200rpm and flooring it from there didn't seem any quicker though. It hasn't been re-tuned since going from manual to auto so, I will get that shortly to see if this will get the turbo spooling up quicker. Once it gets to 4000rpm it goes really well.

If all else fails, I'll put a transbrake in it.

The key ingredient there is NOS which I'm not very keen on. Graemes car is now owned by Robert and I was talking to him yesterday. With no NOS and just using the transbrake to launch on low boost (20 psi) he has done a best of 9.8s and does consistent 10 flats on low boost. I should be able to tune mine for the same hp that he is making at 20 psi (albiet on higher boost as my turbo is smaller) and I would be very happy with high 9s from this setup.

An old thread I know... But did you manage to pull a 9 with this setup in the end?

Not yet and its winter here now so no drag racing. I've upped the power to 762whp so more then capable. Just trying to sort out a decent high stall converter at the moment.

Thats good. I was thinking of doing this conversion sometime next year but im tryng to make my mind up which box to go for.

The TH400 I have uses a B&M quickshifter which means the gear change is manual, so you can run any ecu.

I already have an aftermarket ECU for the engine so thats a bonus, I will go with the B&M shifter as I love the instant manual shifting feel.

Also is there any main difference in choosing a reverse pattern shifter other then pulling back on the stick to change up?
