Minor Car Accident

Went shopping this afternoon at ASDA and had a very minor accident, it was my fault I basically rolled into the back of a big Jeep with a tow bar on the back, I only got a slight crack on my front number plate and they had literally a minor scratch to the tow bar cap cover. So nothing serious, we exchanged details etc, but now im panicking because it was obviously pointless to be putting in a claim, but im wondering if the person I've hit will now go away thinking they can put in an easy claim for whip lash. It was less than 5mph and I have no intentions of claiming for a £15 license plate.

This is my first road 'accident' in 5 years of driving (touch wood) so any advise etc would be appreciated.

Sounds to me like he's going to reverse into a wall and file a claim against you. Just my take on it, but I've been on the wrong end of this kind of carry on before. I did the same thing, rolled into the back bumper bar of a Pajero. There was no damage whatsoever to the jeep and I cracked my front grille. I gave him my name and reg and next thing my insurance company sent me a letter telling me there had been a claim against me to the tune of £1200 and that a further claim was pending. I rang the insurance company and they told me that there were 4 whiplash claims being put in and I told them I explicitly remembered that there was only the driver in the vehicle. I haven't heard anymore about it. Apart from losing my no claims.

It's exactly that sort of nonsense that I worry about, but one saving grace is that my friend got a video of my car as it was left pressed against the tow bar, and then shows me pulling away to inspect the damage and the video clearly shows what damage was caused by it. So if they do go down that road at least I have something to show otherwise

If they do claim and you have their address, make sure they do end up in worse pain than proper whiplash.. ;)

My girlfriend got crashed into a year or so ago and the foreigners that hit her claimed. They got nothing AFAIK.

Remember a few key points,

1) This is Josh

2) It is late on a Monday night

3) It was not so much advice he was giving more just a reason to add a +1 on the post count

Erm... okay.

Nice to see you join the bandwagon, pretty ironic too :)
