Ian R
I don't think the Boxster was a saviour for Porsche it was just a gap in the market that they found to exploit. Now Boxster is to Porsche what A class is to mercedes IMO Now there is no doubt that for what it is the Boxster is great but it amazes me that every time I see one at the Lights they want to play. Why??? It is a boxster and they always lose. I think too many Boxster owners kid themself and really believe they have an awesome car on a par with a 911 which is so not true. But now lets be honest when people ask you what car you drive I'm betting you say a Porsche rather than a Porsche Boxster. If not your one of the few. Amazingly though when people ask me what I drive I answer in the same way I say a Toyota only when they see the car their jaw drops. Now dare I say this as a Jspec owner but perhaps if you were to sit in a UK supra your opinion of the interior may change You see the Jap car was not designed for the european market where as the UK obviously was and the interior IMO was a class above EDIT: to say yes there is an S in Boxster normally at the end if you have more money than sense
GeordieSteve
Top man for posting! My car is under powered ( still 205bhp) and has the same dull interior of the Supra, But it's not built for speed! I get 32 mpg! and I have two boots, I can fit all my tesco shop in the car without having to put some on the seats like Chris does! So your + and - for the boxster are: Negative: Slow Tacky inside Possitive: You can do you shopping in it BARGAIN

RobSheffield
Besides, I always back the underdog, in the badge wars that is Toyota !! actually, Toyota will overtake Vauxhall as the biggest selling car brand by 2007 if current trends continue.... tonyhawk
Poor mans Porsche, that's so original. So is an Elise a poor mans Espirit? A MR2 a poor mans Supra? Again two cars built by the same manufactuer but aimed at two very diffrent markets Er, yes; the Elise is a poor mans Esprit (which is also Turbo'd); the MR2 was designed in a similar vein as the Supra, but with a smaller engine, a generally lower spec, and sold at a lower price, so yes. The difference is, when you buy an MR2, you buy it because you want a cheap 2 seater that's a bit of fun, whereas when you buy a Boxster, you're looking for status, why else would you buy one? The BMW is better built, the Honda is better performing and the SLK, well, hmmm, well the SLK is for those who aren't worried about not looking maculine. The Boxster is medeocre IMO, the chassis is good, but lacks the equipment to make it perform; the engine is under powered, and the interior is made to look expensive, without actually being so. It looks and performs like a Porsche built to a budget. Don't get me wrong, I've got a lot of respect for Porsche's, if I were to come up against a Carrera GT, I wouldn't even try... I agree with GeordieSteve, there are better ways to spend £30k to carry the shopping. Just as a thought, rather than buy a £30k Porsche, why not buy a £10k Supra, and then add £20k of mods.... Steve W2
For the record I would have the new Boxster (I wouldn't pay £30k odd for one though) I think they look great. I don't like the old ones at all though. I am a massive Porsche fan am looking forward to the day I get my hands on my GT2 or even GT3. Whilst I love Supras and think they do have dateless styling and a 'cockpit' style dash, the car is 15 years old and is getting a little on the old side now. For a cheap, fun drive, it's the Supra all the way though. Just as a thought, rather than buy a £30k Porsche, why not buy a £10k Supra, and then add £20k of mods.... If I had 30K I wouldn't buy a Supra and spend 20K on mods. I don't actually know what I would buy, but that's not the point. We are all Supra fans and love the cars, but we shouldn't assume that's how everyone else wants to spend their money. Each to their own and all that. chris aka fonz
Nice 1 for posting up Dude , its good to get your view across in your own words , I believe that the inside of the Sup is nice , the way the dash wraps around you , its very much a drivers car . Diz has been in my car and experienced the power of the Sup but IMO the car is in its element at around 70 + and he hasnt had the chance to feel that, he's not experienced the attention that you receive from other road users and pedestrians both young and old , IMO old people appreciate it as much as the young , it stops people in their tracks , ive had people take photos and videos whilst following me with their camera phones , and for that reason the Supra still rocks not matter how long its been around . Welcome to the Club ! ( look up Jurgen at JM Imports and he should be able to sort you out with a proper motor )

Guest chiefvinso
The supra doesnt look dated and the dash does what it is supposed to do without overcomplicating tings. IMO the boxter looks dated now since its birth. TBH I'm not a Porsche fan, I like the 911 turbo but I just think they are an over glorified VW. Gazboy
So what if a Boxster challenges you to a scrap off the lights- atleast he's having fun and not a tree hugging lentil slurper chaining themselves to your alloys because you poison the earth. I'm sure Lamborghini owners think we're twats when we have a pop at them.
Guest Diz
Top man for posting! So your + and - for the boxster are: Negative: Slow Tacky inside Possitive: You can do you shopping in it BARGAIN Doh! well said, but not really what I meant... As for why I brought a Porsche, well when I was a kid the really fast cars were Ferrari, Lamborghini and Porsche. So when the time was right I got the newest car I could get my hands on! But I did research the car, that's why I didn't buy a early 911. Has anybody here been on a Boxster Forum? No? If you did you would find a group of people who are as pasionate about there cars as you lot are about the Supra, some of us drive them for the car not just the badge, belive what you will...but Boxsters have genuine fans not just social climbers... Why would anyone want a standard 911 turbo? Sod that! I would buy a modified Gemballa 911 3.8, over 700 bhp. It's not only Jap cars that get modified you know... The reason I read this forum is that it can be alot of fun, but I must say that some of you are being really closed minded about other people cars...After all we have one thing in common, we are all petrol heads who like to drive fast !( or quick, if your'e in a Boxster...) Green Peace
If I had 30K I wouldn't buy a Supra and spend 20K on mods. I don't actually know what I would buy, but that's not the point. . Well when I bought my first Supra (UK spec) It was £27k and I got it very cheap because they were selling for as much as £35k. When the Boxster FIRST came out...I took a close look at one and didn't get an orgasm (I admit I never drove one) But The Supra felt like a much more expensive car at the time, it felt 'special' and 'unique' The Supra style kind of looked better as the years went by indicating in a way that its 'looks' were ahead of its time..I have to admit that The Supra dash is a bit dated by todays standards but in my veiw its the most ergonomically designed 'control station' that I have ever seen in a car..the seating position fits like a glove you actually feel like you are part of the car like Steven Hawkins in his motorised chair (bless him) I still like the dash...but then I liked the dash on the original Rover Vitesse SDi (my brov had one of them he he) Any way in a Supra you dont really have much time to look at the dash.. If I was going to spend £30k on a Porsche I'd buy a good S/H Carrera (but maybe coz Im male....last time I checked ) Im not a Porsche fan because they are too commonplace...so would prob buy a second hand Corvette C6 which is excellent value for money and would get the attention and the performance that Supra Owners are used to.. I agree we are all passionate about our cars and if its good for you and you like it then 'Good For You' if we all bought the same car it would be boring! Gazboy
If i had £30k to spend on a Porsche, I'd buy this (the pictures do not do Johnny's car any justice, you have to see it in the metal to appreciate how gorgeous this car is): http://www.pistonheads.co.uk/members/showCar.asp?carId=18843
dangerous brain
If i had £30k to spend on a Porsche, I'd buy this (the pictures do not do Johnny's car any justice, you have to see it in the metal to appreciate how gorgeous this car is): http://www.pistonheads.co.uk/members/showCar.asp?carId=18843 Now that is a beast where it belongs on a track. That cars heritage is track through and through. The idea behind the boxster I believe was to make that track experience more attainable to more people. Lotus pulled it off with the elise and no-one hammers them for that car even though its a go-cart with a roof and little more. A boxster is a good looking car, the S variant is not lacking in go power (I think porsche finally realised they wouldn't really affect 911 sales by making a hoofier boxster) and with impressive brakes and cornering ability I would be impressed if any of the drivers on the forum would make any headway on a boxster S on a circuit. I say this as I had a TT supe up my ass at the start of my silverstone experience, I left it for dead and spent the rest of my time attempting to and eventually overtaking an MRs. I was in an N/A supe. My BPU+++ supe ate a stock boxster for breakfast the week i bought it. I have to say I can still see the look of abject amazement on the guys face when after giving him a 50yard headstart I hammered past him at warp factor with complete ease. I wouldn't however like to tangle on a twisty section with an accomplished driver.
