Strange boost reading ?

Driving down the motorway yesterday, and i noticed that the boost hadn't gone above 0.86.. Which i thought was strange as the car was flying.. I kept on trying to get it to go higher, and noticed that the other Apexui boost gauge i have (Where the clock is) was reaching nearly 1.35 - 1.5 bar ? Now the Apexi avcr was correct on the boost setting up to say 0.5bar but then just didn't go any higher ?

So i'm just guessing but which boost is correct ? And does anyone know why the apexi avcr was not showing higher than 0.86 ?

Thanks in advance ?

Craig.

IMO the reading from an independant gauge will always be more reliable than a boost controller.

Boost controllers rely on them being set up and calibrated properly to show an accurate reading.

Most aren't. Many people just fiddle with them until they hold about the right amount of boost (say 1.4 in your case) and dismiss what boost the controller is actually saying, which is wrong.

The peak boost might be OK, but the response and spool up can be considerably affected, negating the use of one in the first place. In fact, a badly set-up controller is no better than a bleed valve...

I have this as well - when my boost gauge (which I trust and which has been independantly verified) hits 1.1bar the Blitz DSBC is showing about 1.5 or something!

I had put it down to the fact that they took their pressure readings from different hoses in the engine bay (gauge off the FPR feed, DSBC from some misc. hose somewhere), but never got round to swapping them over.

I can't think how you're meant to calibrate the boost controller though? Surely it has a pressure sensor in it, exactly the same as the boost gauge, but a digital readout instead of a needle? Nothing in the instructions about calibrating it, no tempting grub screws to fiddle with . . . :conf:

Adam, look at it this way: Do you think that it's 'normal' for a boost controllers display to show 1.1 bar when an independant gauge shows 1.5?

All manner of things could be wrong: calibration, signal line takeoff, faulty solonoid, even a faulty head unit. All I'm saying is that it ain't right and the usual culprit is a badly set-up unit.

For example, the offset function on EVC's can easily affect the boost level it shows. Indeed, there is a section in the manual entitled 'calibration'....

No idea on the Blitz units.
