Piran
The suspension on my Supra has been lowered and stiffened (very stiff) with the roads round here being so bumpy could this cause the rear wheels to scuff - I'm on my third set of rear tyres in less than a year and have gone through 3.5mm in 2400KM and I HAVEN'T done any burn outs !!!! Ther wear is even across the tread and they tyres feel smooth in all directions (so no feathering) and the only thing I can think of is that the suspension combined with the local roads is scuffing the rubber off them. my next step is to see if I can get the ride raised and softened ! AJI
Third set of tyres in a year That is a very fast wear rate. What width are you running? And are you choosing some very soft compound tyre?
Need4Speed
How low? Measure it under the front cross-member then I'll know if your ride-height is close to mine. What spring/damper set-up is on the car and what size/make of tyres? I run fairly low and get well over 10,000 miles out of my tyres. I agree the bumps are (lit) a pain in the arse. Piran
The front tyres are Kumho Ecsta Supra that were on the car when I bought it - they show a little wear but not much. On the rear so far I've had 2 sets of Kumho Ecsta and 1 set of Goodyear Eagle F1s. The tyres all the standard 17" I'll measure the height when I get home but as I recall I only get about 2inches clearance with the front spoiler down and the suspension is so hard that when I was looking at buying it I did the old press down on a corner and see it bounce check - and the bodywork was giving before the suspension moved ! Need4Speed
Have a look at the shock-absorbers and see if there is any brand on them and also what colour they are. You may have the same TRD ones I have. This sounds like my car except for the tyre wear and wheel width. There are a lot of threads on which tyres are best but as you've tried Goodyear... don't know about Kumho except to say they are a budget brand. If you want to raise the car and soften it, you could do a lot worse than fit standard springs and dampers.
Piran
Ok. I've had the wheels off and I have Yellow Bilstein shocks and the height from ground to the top of the front wheel arch is : 625mm and 645mm at the rear I'm now coming up for replacing the rear tyres again ! Doughie
I would advise getting a full suspension geometry check on your car ASAP. if you've lowered the car a lot, then unless you change the camber, castor and toe settings the tyres will wear very fast indeed. Which sounds like exactly what you've got. You may have lowered it so much that to it's not possible to correct the toe / camber settings as the range of adjustment might not be sufficient to bring it back within spec. Chris Wilson's specialism is in suspension, so he may able to offer his 2p worth on this.
