Does a wastegate VSV have to be grounded to work?

As above, I hit fuel cut on a spirited drive a couple of times today :(, I pulled the fault codes when I got back, it gave code 34 (Turbo pressure malfunction). I also noticed the turbos didn't feel as strong as normal.

So I thought i'd try swapping the existing wastegate VSV for my spare one, only thing is I didn't screw it in to the metal frame when I test drove it the second time.

It did feel like it was boost stronger but it still hit fuel cut at about 5000rpm, should I of scewed/bolted it into the metal frame (is that the earth?).

I've tested both VSVs I have, using the technique listed on the max boost website and they appear to be working okay.

Next thing to look at is presumabley my FCD and wiring to it, can they suddenly start playing up? The car has been garaged and serviced over winter.

If anyone has any suggestions it'll be much appreciated.

PS It's not coil packs, clips, fuel filter or plugs and i've a new OEM O2 sensor coming tuesday. Oh and it idles rough when first started up (this improves after a run out for 15 mins or so).

Car is BPU at 1.2 bar on high boost setting on greddy profec II EBC.

Cheers

Tom
