jast
I may have mentioned this before, when i bought the car in Jan it came with a bill for around £3500. This included a new SS exhaust (no cats), new turbo seals, and both turbos stripped, and rebuilt, anyway the cars been hitting 1,3 bar and after racing the M3, Evo 7 etc it seems to go like stink, could they be hybrids, what are hybrids, sorry for displaying my usual lack of forced induction knowledge:sly:
GavinL
Phone the people who raised the bill/did the work I think they will stand a much better chance of answering that question over anyone here don't you think?
jast
true, however, please define hybrid turbos???
SMW
Machined to allow more air flow and bigger compressor wheels is the extent of my very limited understanding.
GavinL
I did a search on "Google" http://www.turbotechnics.com/
adi
Hybrids are simply one offs (sometimes eventually put into production) made to a particular specification. They can have anything from enlarged housings and turbines, 360 bearings, steel blade replacements, blah blah There is no set specification. They can have whatever the builder/customer wants. 90% of the time they are machined from the stock castings, but dont have to be. You can have an aftermarket turbo modified. In which case it becomes a hybrid Garret or whatever. Normally they have the bulders plate stamped onto the housings.. but not all the time. Chris Wilson
Short of stripping the turbos and measuring everything precisely, and knowing the measurements of stock turbos as a comparison, it's VERY hard to tell. I have now seen 2 MKIV's that suppoesedly had hybrids, but whe these devices failed they turned out to be just stock tired units that had had a good bath Sometimes there'll be rebuilders tag on them TT usually have buildtag on them somewhere. Not to say they are hybrids though unless they have a part number or something more than a name and logo.
