Locking Valve Caps

SkyJawa

Recommended Posts

I bought my 200SX S14a a few weeks back and just found out I can't undo the valve caps! They appear to be some sort of locking ones but not the spanner type. Its basically metal, and on each side of it directly opposite each other are two small holes maybe 2-3mm big.

Don't suppose anyone knows how I can get it off without the key?

This is the offending little git!

Any ideas?

If they're the same as mine you need a little lug nut type thing to screw into one of those holes which holds the outside piece against the inside and you can unscrew then as per usual. You can find loads on ebay that do the same ...... search on toyota valve caps and look for a guy called valvecap I think or something similar ...... Have fun chap.

No, those are the titanium ones that came free with Fast Car magazine. They will have binded onto the steel valve, just like mine did even though I used copper slip when fitting them.

I used a big pair of mole grips to hold the valve body, and a big pair of pliers to turn them off, but it was hit or miss.

Safest bet is to take the car to a tyre fitter and get all valves replaced.

When you get rid of those crappy ones, try a set of these http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=52639&item=7990814822&rd=1

I highly recomend them, on my third set, on three different cars before you start ..... expect to pay a tenner all in. Some kid recently had really grubby fingers from my wheels but no valve cao :read: :read: :read: :read:

Sorry ...... just noticed Toyota ones will look crap on a Nissan, try "Nissan Valve Caps" just got some "Z" ones ...... for the zed surprise surprise !

Was just about to say that! LMAO!!!

TBH I'm happy with normal caps, less tempting the little tw4ts to your car, as Peter says........

Just gotta get these buggers off - I'll wait until the R34 rims are on, that way it doesn't matter if I make a hash of it and need the tyre place to put new valves on...............

Been thinking of wiring my car up to the mains for a while now! ;)

Anybody ever thought of using an agricultural type electric fencer? They run on 12v and give a nasty (but safe!) shock? You'd need a wire to ground for it to work and then anything that touches the body or wheels... :ecstatic:

Problem is they make a nice ticking sound - just like a bomb might make! You'd probably return to your car to find they'd done a controlled explosion on it! :scare:
