Installing a 2jz into an IS 200

Just wondering if anyone on the forum has performed this swap? If so how easy is it to do?

I've found an IS 200 for dirt cheap but needs an engine and would like to make it an IS 300 but not sure how big of a task this would be. Or maybe the 1uzfe if not much more work.

Thanks for any info :)

It's not as easy as just dropping an engine in. While the engines are a straight fit into the bay, the v160 won't clear the transmission tunnel (so I'm told) and the stock is200 gearbox is very weak.

Potentially a great little sleeper, though I suspect a 1jz+r154 swap would be more cost effective.

i only know of one person that's done the 2JZ swap, however a friend of mine did the 1J you basically need iirc 2 of the same side GS300 engine mounts and then have to cut the hell out of one of them, as said the 1JZ imo is a better option into a IS200

Here's my mates that was at Santa Pod, it's running a Holset HX35 hasn't been dyno'd yet however it destroyed another friends UK Supra running hybrids and a 500bhp skyline lol

1JZ or 2JZ wouldn't make much difference because in either case you wouldn't be using the original gearbox. 1JZ would be a lot cheaper though, and you have the possibility of a W58 'box surviving for longer. :)

It's probably easier to convert an IS300, since it already has a JZ, but the car would likely be more expensive.

I don't think the IS200 was sold in North America, so the Americans always start with an IS300, and they had the factory manual option (W5x).

I suppose that what you need to know is

-- if a JZ + IS300 engine mounts drops into an IS200

-- how much hacking you have to do to fit a W58 (possible for a 1JZ, very dodgy for a 2JZ) or R154 (or V160 if you're rich :))

-- if the gearbox needs the Mk3 Supra gear lever position or the Soarer/Mk4 Supra position

-- if the IS uses the same size diff as the JZ cars

-- how much hassle is caused by the IS being OBDII.

Brakes are no problem, the fronts are the same as the "J-Spec" Supra, and "UK" Supra 4-pots fit with offset inserts from FIGS Engineering in the States.

That's a lovely car, with 17" supra wheels in gunmetal it would be the ultimate sleeper

Haha it's awesome mate and it sounds insane when the turbo spools up those Holsets are really impressive, the issue he has is the IS200 doesn't have very wide arches and his is heavily rolled and he's still only able to run 215's stretched across 10J's on the rear so traction is a issue lol.

I think you would be better off with the IS300. It's already got the 2JZGE motor and 5 speed auto from the N/A Supra. I was really planning on doing this swap a while ago, but it just seems as though none of the garages in the UK have done this before.
