heat shield / exhaust rattle need help

Hello all,

Just so that you know. I am typing this when i am annoyed so please excuse any bad spelling etc.

I have a rattle that occurs at approx 1750rpm (only when accel) and it is coming from the exhaust or the heat shields around the exhaust.

Now i have checked all the connections and all the heat shields and they all appear to be securely fixed and yet the noise persists!:wtf:

I have a 94 SZ-R 5 speed manual. Only the back box is different from stock.

I know that this is a resonance issue and it sounds terrible when going thru 1750 rpm. Its embarrassing!

Please help me out. I know its a relatively common issue and was hoping someone could tell me which part exactly is causing it.

At the moment i feel like ripping all the heat shields out and wrapping the whole thing. (but i have no heat wrap at the moment or ties).

cheers,

really!

Toyota put them on it for a reason surely. I am not keen on removing all the heat shields.

I was hoping to narrow it down to one particular heat shield and tighten it up or add some form of sound dampening / insulation.

i will have to enlist the aid of my helper to rev it while i am inspecting it. (must remember to wear ear defenders):Pling:

Ok guys a quick update.

Managed to fix the rattle without removing all the heat shield.

Found that the first heat shield after the first CAT had broken near the fixing point. Ripped it off (being careful to leave the sensor wire harness still attached) and roberts your fathers brother.

Back to sounding sweet as a nut!
