Personalised number plates

Recommended Posts

I have bought cars in the past that have had personalised number plates.

However I have never bought one to put on a car and wondered what the process was.

Does anyone know, or can someone point me to a guide online please?

Best place is the DVLA site. It's a doddle really. Choose the plate you like and buy it online - with the DVLA this will include the £80 assignment fee to put it on your car.

They'll send you an Entitlement Certificate (V750) that you take to your local DVLA with your Tax Disc, MoT certificate and V5. They'll do the rest. You get a new Tax Disc with the new reg, a new MoT Certificate with the new reg and they send off the V5 for you which will come back with the new details on. Then you can get plates made up as they give you a stamped form that you can take to any number plate supplier although most online ones don't ask for any proof at all!

Careful though, you can spend hours sodding around with combinations trying to make meaningful or rude words :D

Really simple process, Went to my local DVLA office at Bristol and it was all made easy for me. As ellis has already said, Buy it and pay your assignment fee, Or retention fee if you don't have a car for it yet, Either send it away with the details you need or go there direct to DVLA for quickness.

I was concerned last year when i done mine, Couldn't believe how easy it was.
