Engine warning light permanently on!!!!

Hey guys and girls,

Could do with some help.

I have a Jspec TT, and recently fitted the metal monkey dials, only to find out these are calibrated to convert from kph to mph!

As the car has a converter fitted the speed was reading 30mph-ish out!

So, simples me and a clever mate thought and disconnected the converter box!

Problem now is that the odometer has stopped working completely and after 3-4 minutes of driving the engine warning light comes on. This is then followed by the traction control light which keeps flashing at me!!

I am not technical in the electrical sense, but any pointers i can pass onto my mate?

Does the odometer wire have something to do with the warning lights?

My guess is there must be a break in the wire somewhere?

Any suggestions would help!

Search the forum for the thread detailing how to check error codes with a paper clip.

Once you have the code(s) post them up and im sure you wont be short of answers.

As a shot in the dark...you may have a loose speed sensor wire causing the engine light to come on....usually when you go over a certain speed.

Cheers dude,

Thats what i been trying to get to the bottom off, i think it happens at a certain speed.. but cant be sure. If i take it really really easy, nothing seems to happen... so you may be right! As we played around with the wiring, am sure that its wiring related!

I'll check the codes

I had a code #42 issue that was speed signal related. The MIL light came on whenever i went over 60.

Could be duff odometer, dry solder issue on odometer, dodgy speed signal connection near ecu or speedo converter unit.

Dont use scotch clamps...ideally dont use any kind of clamping connection...if you can solder connections and shrink rap them.

Good luck :)

Traction etc relies on the speed sensor to operate...unplugging the convertor without actually making the wiring loom as it was b4 the convertor was fitted might have left the speed sensor out of the loop somehow? But then I might be wrong, just my take on things.

We pretty much followed as good as possible, but seems like something has disconnected!
