Abz
No, you're mistaken. It's Nippon Autos in Derby. Ah, apologises - Thank you Josh for clarifying they are Nippon Autos in Derby.
qwarrior
Just reading their website and thought the following paragraph is reasonably humerous after seeing Hodge's photos. "...supply service in the UK. We also offer a fitting service which gives you the peace of mind that the job will be done correctly. And, with our fitting service on hand, there's no need to find a specialist workshop! We can ..." And, has anybody told them you don't statr a sentnce with 'And' (Deliberate And at the start of this sentence before you pull me up)
SupraAyf
Im sure Hodge would be happy to compile a small report with pictures of every problem he has found (as a result of Nippon Autos in Derby's involvement) to submit to Trading Standards. The car is majorly not fit for purpose now, not to mention a bit of a safety hazzard! This is quite a serious issue due to the number of problems that John has already identified. In legal terms, if Simon wanted to take these guys to the cleaners (which is not an easy job) then John would have to stop work while Simon tasked a Technical Auto Surveyor to come out and conduct an actual vehicle report. It is this type of report only that is accepted by a UK Court of law and judging by Nippon’s bad attitude so far, and its total disregard for its customer-base; then I could very easily see it going that way. TheTurtleshead
Can't be arsed to read everything and see if someone has answered this, but do the reverse lights work? If they don't then that grey plug hanging down is the reverse light switch If it is then it needs splicing into the auto loom, on the large grey plug, two wires, red and yellow. Colin-mkiv
Wow.....thats a terrible way to 'upgrade' a car. Nippon seems more cowboy outfit than a ten gallon hat and a pair of leather chaps. Seeing Hodge sorting Simons car out almost puts me in mind of a certain American TV show...where the 'marks' car gets the full Overhaulin' treatment. Hodge Foose in the house? pezzler
I bought a N/A from them about 5 years ago, I had it a week and the rear nearside wheel fell of mid-flight. All the studs sheared off! I was only doing 30, but I had been doing 90 a few days before - could have been messy

Robzki
Just to play devils advocate here, but it seems that this company is getting a slating here (which could always end up looking bad on the club) based on from what I've seen 1 car with a lot of faults being fixed by someone else(not the owner) who was met at a recent car meet . Also based on a wheel falling off of a car 5 years ago, was this ever resolved? I imagine a wheel falling off at 30mph would cause a lot of damage I'm not taking any sides and if this is the true workmanship of this company then they deserve to be shut down and some justice served. Has anyone phoned the company to give them the right to reply here? I'm not into a witch hunt as I have put all of my pitchforks into storage. I apologise if I have got the situation wrong and have missed any proof that this company did all of the appalling work on the car.

In post 35: I've spoke to Simon this morning, he said he has phoned Nippon autos today and they basically told him they didn't care and wernt interested. Total four king cowboys. My advice would be to STAY WELL CLEAR.
hodge
As above. The owner has phoned them on numerous occasions and was told they were not interested and didn't care. All I'm doing here is posting my finds with the car. I am to be fair 1 of the most anal people on here but anyone could find these problems there so odvious and dangerous. I was asked to do a thread so BOOOOOOM, here it is. I really don't care about wether people slate this place or not, I've had nothing to do with them nor will I ever, I'm just helping someone out who couldn't sort it himself. Fitz
Nippon Autos in Derby or Derbyshire? I can never distinguish between the two. I wish I knew which Nippon Autos we spoke of that have done an APPAULING job with a TT transplant for an honest customer. Hopefully someone can tell me which Nippon Autos it is. SupraDan24
I second this Simon and very good post Tubby. I know its a pain and a chore to do it fella, but think about what may happen to the next guy they do something like this for. Your car was unsafe, period. I'd go pay them a visit if it were me and tell them you are contacting trading standards, see if they offer you any money back. If they do, take it then contact trading standards anyway. Why should you have to suffer for their laziness and quite frankly poor workmanship. Get it done: http://www.derbyshire.gov.uk/business/trading_standards/contacting_us/default.asp Then write TS a letter detailing all the problems and highlight the serious safety issues with pictures as found by Hodge. Make sure you also send a copy of said letter to the Nippon Cowboys with pictures. For a start that battery would be an instant MOT fail, and the police would ticket you for it if an inspection was done. Then post on every single Japanese car forum you can think off. And Just for the sake of google, that was Nippon Autos in Derby http://nipponautoparts.net/ http://www.nipponautospares.com/ http://www.touchderby.com/business/list/bid/3419783 http://uk.linkedin.com/pub/nippon-auto-spares-ltd/3a/8a4/

pezzler
Also based on a wheel falling off of a car 5 years ago, was this ever resolved? I imagine a wheel falling off at 30mph would cause a lot of damage The studs sheared, the back-end dropped and the wheel was trapped between the arch and the road Not a great deal of damage really; the wheel was fudged, and I needed new studs. I called the guy that sold me the car, he basically said that the car was fine when it left the "showroom" and that it was my responsibilty to check that the nuts were tight Following inspection, I found that the studs were barely long enough to suit the wheels (which were apparantly standard Supra wheels, which I found out later were actually Celica ones), on all 4 corners. I called the guy back, he offered to sell me a set of wheels, I offered to call trading standards, then he offered to give me a set of wheels......bloody ugly curbed 5-spoke with buggered tyres on the too Besides it initially being a death trap, the engine was as sweet as a nut
