Ricky49
Its her indoors birthday Wednesday and I have bought her an iPad as an earlier present as she was going on how much she wanted one. I have just been on it and I don't get them. I can do all the things I need to on my iPhone or the laptop. The wife is raving on on how good it is and what she can do with it. Maybe I'm not down with technology as I thought I was.

Spence
Prefer it to a laptop.
jazz1
It's only good for when you are in bed and want to use the Internet, otherwise waste of money.

j_jza80
iPads at generally fantastic things, Laptops are generally very backwards in many respects. My iPad is used for mobile web browsing, on the sofa, in bed, it acts as a mobile library, I use it when working on my car etc. laptops are very bulky and have poor battery life (my iPad often lasts 18-20 hours of frequent use, try that on a laptop!) I only use my laptop for word processing and storage, something that will soon be done by a desktop. Laptops have their place, but in many respects they can't compete. Rajinder
I also bought the new iPad and it is miles ahead of my laptop. Very compact and the photos on it are amazing.

Ricky49
I did notice that the battery has hardly moved since she has been on it. I will try it again when i get a chance.
jonathanc
My kids love it (Gen 1) but to me it's just an oversized iPhone
Gaz6002
An iPad purchase is a very personal thing. Some people need one, many people don't. I've put a lot of thought into it for my job, but bought a notepad instead and I couldn't be happier. It works loads better than the iPad for what I do. Josh
Big waste of money IMO. It seems like just a big iPhone but without the phone capabilities to me. The only reason I can see to have one is for your kids so they can play on it.

Si_s Supe
I have an iPhone and have recently got the 'new' iPad. I rarely used my laptop before having an iPad and did everything on the iPhone. Only time I used to use the laptop was to update the iPhone, but now iCloud is here...even that is redundant!! The iPad is SOOOOOO much better than a laptop. I find it far easier to use (touch screen is so much better than those gash touch pad mouse things) In landscape mode, the keyboard is just as, if not quicker to type with, photos are FAR superior in quality, battery life is massively better, you don't need anti-virus, there is almost nothing you can't do on it! The list literally goes on and on! The single biggest thing for me though is the sheer speed! Everything happens instantly and when you want to use it you just open the cover (mine auto-locks/unlocks) and off you go. No boot up or waiting for this that and the other to start. It's just generally awesome!!! FYI.....posted using my iPad!

I use mine mainly for web browsing, reading news, magazines, watching movies & making notes. I can logging to my office Citrix connection in seconds, great for editing documents on the fly, perfect size for my man bag. Best thing? I use mine pretty much everyday for a bit, I haven't charged it for one week.

Ditto Although I have downgraded to the "new iPad" and the battery life and connectivity seem poor in comparison to the iPad 2... No doubt there will be another software update on its way.... Wez
I've had an iPad2 for a while now and it's great, when used with things like Dropbox and VMs it can be very productive instead of just net browsing
