Guest Luder
Hi All, Last time I returned home from offshore my battery on my Supra was nearly dead (after 3 weeks) at it refused to start the car, in the end I had to get it towed out the garage backwards and jump start it on the road. To avoid this again, this time I have gone offshore I have disconnected the battery but I fear I may have done the wrong thing! The car has been BPU'd and I am now worrrying that I may have screwed the settings in the ECU.... I have been told when I return home to leave the ignition on for 10 mins while the ECU re-flashes and not to start it before that. Is there any real risk of damage?? I think I will have to invest in a better battery that can hold the charge for over 3 weeks.....
merckx
You don't need to have the battery connected at all, it won't cause any problems with the ecu. Some car alarms can cause a few problems when the battery drains. If you're leaving it standing for 3 weeks at a time buy a trickle charger to keep the battery topped up while you're away. Nic
Disconnecting the battery will reset the ECU, it may run a bit lumpy and not idle initially, the ECU will relearn the settings after a short run out and all should be fine.

No such problems from my car and the battery was disconnected for nearly two years. Started straight up and tick over was smooth from the off. Havard
I would stop messing around and spend £45 on a CTEK 3600 charger.
Guest Luder
Hey all OK bit the bullet and got a CTEK 3600 charger on order, thanks for all advice! Least I know the car will be fine when I get back and no more flat batteries for me
