Job Contract renewal due-advise please

Hi everyone, so I've been working for my company for over a year now, I was given a fixed term contract which is due to expire on 10/04.

I have been temping since Jan 2011 and was offered a 6 month contract well....6 months ago. Im just worried whether it will be renewed or not, and what rights (if any) do I have? I would of thought because I have technically been with the company over a year now, even though part temp part contract that I would have the same rights as someone who is permanent but im not to sure.

Any advise would be appreciated.

Fixed term contracts do not entitle you to any rights within the company after the expiry date. Basically, if they don't renew your contract, then you need to look for a new one.

We use contractors in our line of work, they're all 3-6 month, fixed term, fixed rate contracts. At the end of that, we either renew or part company.

Nope - on a contract basis, there's no rights per sé, however, certain companies of US origin run-scared of the 50 week rule, whereby contractors in the states have a "right to hire" after 50 weeks, and are entitled to Full Time Employee rights. That's why you very rarely see 12 month contracts in the States.

As for here, sorry, they can cherry pick their staff from the contractors.

I will direct Mrs H to this thread. I think because of the time scales you are talking about then you will not have any rights. My mate was on a rolling 12 month contract with my old company. This had been going on for three years and Vicki told wrote letters on his behalf as he had the same rights as someone who had been employed as a staff member.

In the end he got a decent payout when they stopped his contract.

H.
