Dragonball
OK m8 - dont panic - your P&J will get through the operation! LOL! There is a link on the Mkiv site on what causes this and how can be cured Mine does it after cold weather etc - also double check the the allen keys are tight (DOH - yeah I know - first thing you did - but dont forget the flex on the car now grounded) BTW looks great! eyefi
r u putting it on correctly? fasten passenger back, driver back, driver front , passenger front, middle. all this on a level surface. if that fails the fixing points that the roof fits into can become loose. look here btw the car looks real good, its nice to see the wheels sat in the arches rather than hanging. Justin
Mine creaked like bugger after I was sure I did up all the bolts tight but after a few miles driving found that they were loose. Often find myself with the allen key thingy in my left hand whilst driving tightening up the bolts.
Digsy
I always go around my bolts twice whenever I re attatch the roof. I can usually get another half turn or so on each one after the roof has settled into place. I didn't do it once because I was in a hurry and the difference was obvious - lots of creaking. Dragonball
From Mkiv site - As long as I've had my 95 TT when it gets cold the targa top would start to rattle, and I would have to tighten it down. Occasionally aggressive driving or AutoXing would also cause a rattle. I always assumed this was due to the cold or the top getting loose. Well it seems its not so....While driving to/around Houston last week, I hit a *BIG* pothole right in the middle of I10! It jarred me and the whole car, fortunately the wheels didn't get tweaked. Unfortunately within a few miles the targa started chattering worse than a set of GM F-Body Tops! I had to drive the 190+ Miles home with every bump in the road causing my top to scream. I tried torquing the top in, but that didn't help. Actually, if I felt the top as I hit a bump, I could feel it moving! Anyway.....When I got home, I whipped out the shop manual and took the top apart. As I had guess, the bolts holding the rear "connection bolts" to the top were loser than finger tight. I tightened them *real* good and put it all back together (15 minutes). Since then I haven't heard I peep out of the top!!! I haven't been to an AutoX since doing this, but I did drive the car up to Dallas in cold weather, and again not a sound. So...If you have a noisy Targa, try tightening those bolts. The only tricky part was removing the weather stripping and Rain Sill without damaging them or the sticky gunk that holds them on. Eric Just for you m8! adi
Mine does it a bit.. it helped when i sprayed some - wait for it - 'Halfords Rubber and Nylon Lubricant' on the strips.. apparebtly good for stuff like this. Also, a lot of the creaks come from the plastic fittings becoming aged...not much you can do about that really..

Dragonball
I actually wedge down the 'fins' on the top as the whistle at high speeds drives me mad Although they are there to stop 'resonance' within the cab - this doesn't happen with the window slightly open - but not good design Paul:cool:
