Gaz6002
The Cayman R is certainly a very dynamic and powerful car (for its size). However, for that money I would rather go for the TTRS. Horse for courses etc Really? I can't stand modern Audis. Even the R8 leaves me totally cold.
Kirk
I'm sorry am I reading that correctly? You would rather have. TTRS over a Cayman R?
jonathanc
Really? I can't stand modern Audis. Even the R8 leaves me totally cold. Well I have test driven the Cayman R (very short time tho...) and TTRS but I preferred the TTRS more. It's hard to tell unless I can drive both on track but on the real world I would prefer a TTRS (with Mag Ride). I could be biased tho
jonathanc
I'm sorry am I reading that correctly? You would rather have. TTRS over a Cayman R? Yes I think so Perhaps I am not really a Porsche man myself? I think the Carrera is fugly and never really liked the the rest of the models except maybe for the GT2RS edit: Blimey, just specced up a Cayman R and it's nearing GTR prices after specced up properly... I know which one I'll pick
Kirk
I can concede the Cayman isn't exactly a good looking car although the R version does look aggressive as its suppose to be but in terms of handling the 2 are not even close IMO. That's probably me being biased as I like Porsche's

I know which one I'll pick For me, the Cayman, every single time. I could never spend money on one of those Nissans. They're the definitive money pit, and don't do anything at all for me. I love emotion in my cars, and there isn't a Nissan or an Audi out there which flicks my switch.

Ah, the talk about emotion You definitely will love Alfas then! Plenty of emotion GTRs are a bit of a money pit but then again aren't most high performance cars? If I were to spend £55k + on a car I personally would want the best bang for buck but I can see where you are coming from if you can afford any car you desire edit: I won't lie if I win Euromillions I would definitely get myself the Cayman R... and the 911 Turbo S too! I drove one a few years ago & thought that was pretty good. The interior was typical Audi though, we had a Q7 that weekend too and it was comical jumping between the two interiors! I don't love Alfas! They're always such a massive let-down Bang for buck is a relative term though isn't it? I'd be wanting something I can drive at ten tenths for as long as I can, not something that'll go quickly in a straight line a couple of times before something breaks. I love Alfas (GTV...8C) but just can't afford or warrant owning one now... Agree, bang for buck is relative indeed. For me I am happy my stock car can easily outpace almost every car on the road - only my talent is the limit It will be very hard to decide the GTRs replacement... You don't need talent, you have all those computers to do the hard bits for you I have to say though, Porsche has a reputation for reliability that the GTR can only dream of... Agreed about the 8C. I'd love one just to stare at. I want to own a 75 for a while too.

Agreed about the 8C. I'd love one just to stare at. I want to own a 75 for a while too. Never owned a Porsche so can't comment but I don't see what is wrong with the GTR to be that unreliable? The only fault I had with the GTR so far (touch wood!!!) is the TPMS which was fixed on warranty . Mechanical wise the car starts and runs fine each push of the button - even after leaving it standing for 3 freezing cold days. Interior wise... well yes I would say it is definitely not up to scratch as the Germans as I've got few annoying buzzing and rattling developing randomly depending on ambient temp... grrr... Although to be fair part of that might be caused by the previous owner having a "custom" install for a Road Angel device. But I digress... I am very curious where you get the idea about the GTR's reliability problems...
Gaz6002
But I digress... I am very curious where you get the idea about the GTR's reliability problems... I've heard quite a few horror stories. There's loads of them online, and I've heard directly from some owners too. There's a reason Nissan can sell that car so cheap

There's a reason Nissan can sell that car so cheap Same as how I've heard horror stories about 911s then eh? But still Porsche sell them so expensively! Shock horror! Seriously though, the GTR does have a strict (and expensive) maintenance regime and I supposed not every owner can stomach that ( I guess at least not for a Nissan... ). If you have never driven one I would suggest you try it just to feel it. It is indeed a very different experience. Supercar performance at bargain price Really loving car at the moment but I will say the ownership might not last for too long. It's brilliant in a lot of ways but hard to justify as a proper every day car for long term. I guess that's why there are loads of low mileage GTRs in the market. I've driven several it's my job to test drive cars. Would you consider a toy and an everyday car? I think the days of 'one car for all situations' are rapidly coming to an end thanks to monumental running costs.

I think the days of 'one car for all situations' are rapidly coming to an end thanks to monumental running costs. Blimey! Dream job lol. Watching "Best of TG" on telly and JC's comment on the McLaren reminds me of this thread Well, as we already have 2 cars at home I am afraid the toy idea is out for now. Maybe in a few years when I can afford a bigger house to park all the cars... Don't be mistaken the GTR is a brilliant driver's car but I am very fussy and the interior is my biggest bugbear at the moment. Seeing the latest iteration of the GTR looks almost the same as the old one I don't see how Nissan is asking almost £70 for it. Definitely a great driving experience especially every time I bury the loud pedal but alas I can't be on the track as often as I like. Thinking of the R8 as future replacement which I am sure you will definitely detest

Its interior isn't brilliant, and it just doesn't feel special enough to justify its price tag. The engine sounds nice and your gran could drive it very quickly, but it takes itself far too seriously. There's no theatre, and for that reason I don't think it's a supercar. Oh, and JC is wrong about the Macca. That's a serious bit of kit

Never driven one on the road yet so I will reserve my judgement. I would definitely have the McLaren if I can afford it lol. Being a bit of a geek tech cars are a big hit with me.
