ellis
Yeah you're right, we should continue to screw the world up until it's past the point of no return, then take off and nuke it from orbit. Good thinking Game over man, game over!!!
Abz
Game over man, game over!!! I understand what Boris is doing and to a degree I agree with him & Gaz, though the timing isn't brilliant & nor are the costs. If it was a minor change that needed to be made then fine, but when you got a fleet of vans & lorries and have been done it needs to be done as soon as possible, that large cost could be enough to brink you to the edge. Without no financial support from the government & little assistance being provided from the banks, unless you don't mind paying an extremely high rate it will without a doubt hit some businesses hard. Good thinking What would you rather do, live like a hermit always worrying if your farts where hurting plant life around you? If London is polluted i seriously doubt knocking a few diesel old vans off the road are going to do anything except hurt the average chap who relies on them. But then I guess being an idealist is easy when it doesn't really affect you.

The difference is that I understand the issues behind the pricing. IMO it's bigger than a few (and believe me, it isn't many at all) commercial vehicle-owning firms who are running out-dated fleets. That's the thing... it isn't the 'average chap'. The poeple affected are actually few and far between.

The small business owner, like a tradesman, independant builder, sparky, plumber, etc, now cannot use their vehicle in the city anymore without paying yet more fee's. As you say, we already pay £1.50 a litre for fuel and i'm at nearly £300 a year road tax and yet the govt have seen fit to hit the small business owner who probably pays the same, with something else to keep him up at night. There's going to come a point when you just can't win anymore and your working to cover your taxes, fee's and food.

We pay £1.50 a litre on fuel, in Qatar they pay roughly 25p, okay they are an oil rich country but think about how cheaply they sell the oil & still make a load of money whilst we tax almost 70% out of a litre in just fuel tax alone. The chap I brought my current Supra from has emirated to Qatar, little to no taxes, yet the small country has a thriving economy. They own Olympic village, The Shard (Will be tallest building in UK), Harrods, a lot of business buildings in Canary Wharf & a shed load of top end houses in Chelsea. They offer free schooling & private medical care & top salary, no wonder the chap has emigrated. If help was offered to businesses than fine, that is support that the economy needs, not more taxes.
