The photocard isn't the license, it's always the paper part. The card is just proof of having a license ;)

As I don't have a card the only proof I have of having a license is the license itself :D

Might be a bit of confustion as you get a paper counter part with your card licence wheres all the old licences used to be papaer with no card

I'm confused. Going to sit in a dark room now.

Is it not law to have the photo id now?

If you get a license now you automatically get the card. If you make any changes to your license you automatically get the card now (before it was optional).

I've never had any notification to tell me that I need a card and I can't remember anything to tell me otherwise so I would say no, but I don't know for certain. If it is the law they have done a god awful job of letting people know.... but again that wouldn't surprise me.

He's busy grooming racist newbies..!!

It's as if the forum is an actual entity though isn't it. There we were, moaning about the lack of trolls and as if by magic...... minutes later... one appears.

This forum may be going downhill but at least it's leaving a blazing trail behind it :D

My Daughter's boyfriend got into all sorts of trouble a few couple of years ago and I cant recall the exact circumstances but basically he was unable to prove he had ever had a licence or had past his test. He tried to say it was a DVLA error and not his responsibility to prove he did have one previously, DVLA refused to provide this proof and he argued the case until it went to court. The court took a dim (like him really) view and said as he was unable to produce proof he had held a licence, in their view he didnt have one and he got fined and was forced to re-apply and re-take his test.
