Hobgoblin
Hi all. One day last week I got into my van, and set off for work. After about 1 mile I realised I had left my lunch in the fridge at home, so I turned around to go and pick it up. Today I saw a rather odd event, coincidence or not;? I was playing golf at 2.30pm in Ludlow, Shropshire, a gorgeous clear spring day. Overhead I saw the vapour trail of a plane, and could just about make out the profile of the plane, as an airliner. It was heading about Nothwest I reckon, and then turned around, the vapour trail confirming it had made a precise U turn, and was heading on an exact opposite of its original course. Out of curiosity does anyone here work in the airline trade, and have a clue why it would return, and not simply divert elsewhere if there was a problem? I guess it had probably started out from Stanstead or Luton. Must be a lousy start to a holiday, to land up back where you started.

j_jza80
It could have been an RAF Sentry or Tanker aircraft.

SupraStar 3000
The first major rehearsal of a joint operation featuring fighter jets, Airborne Warning and Control System (AWACS) planes, helicopters, missile batteries and air-to-air snipers took place two hours north of London on Wednesday, in a plan to supplement Britain's normal airspace security for the games. Apparently they plan to put snipers in helicopters to shoot any dodgy looking pilots! I can't see that working very well,... what do they expect to achieve apart from uncontrolled pilotless aircraft filled with fuel and people, zooming across london. Ryan Air have been doing that for years.
