Abz
Let me just say Abz, I have absolutely no doubts that those cars are rapido with the right setup. If someone said they managed a high 12 with decent drag tyres I would have no problems believing it, in fact there is plenty of evidence of this fact, saying that it was done on off tyres is just ridiculous IMO though. I understand where you are coming from Scott, indeed a very rapid car but without a doubt it can not hit 170mph. Talking about off tyres, the ones I had on at SupraPod were barely legal! And look what happened there...

Yeah, they hooked like a maniac due to the lack of power from your car and made you stall

On a more serious note, for some reason I had it in my head they will be like slicks now, and I am sure the surface is sticky! How wrong was I? It just launched and sat there wheel spinning, didn't help me launching it at 4k rpm either! Then shifting to 2nd & back to 1st again wasn't the best thing to as well thinking about it, I have ran out of excuses now, but that is the truth, and nothing but the true. You would be right if the compound wasn't so hard bud. That's the difference between sticky tyres with loads of grip and not so sticky tyres. The harder compound tyres with tread actually get an awful lot of their grip from the tread itself (hence why the police like to pull you for a lack of it). The softer tyres only really rely on tread to displace the water etc as the softer compound gives grip by sticking to the tarmac. This is why R888s and other fast road tyres are useless in the wet, very little tread for traction and they can't get to temp to stick to the tarmac, the water just cools & lubricates..... oeerrrr. Yeah, the excuse train is really picking up speed eh

TubbyTwo
at a Marham track day my MR2 turbo was murdered by a DC2 in the twisties, as soon as the corners ended I returned the favour. Lightweight, high revving just cant compete with the sheer brute force from a turbo. reeled him in and passed with ease. My vote is still MR2 turbo, cheap to buy, easy to maintain, parts are reasonable and nothing overly complicated to go wrong. Get a rev 3, decat, exhaust, intake, chargecooler, ebc to 1.2 bar and strip it out. You will be hard pressed to find a car that fast for the money, some serious scalps to be collected!
