What Track car shall I treat myself to?

+1 for the CR-X. My mate had one when I was at college. Bearing in mind I did my apprenticeship at a company specialising in Impreza's and Evo's, he took me out in that and i was amazed!! VTEC in a car that weighs about the same as my Spoiler!!

A Mitsubishi FTO. With some lightening (carbon bonnet and boot), ditch rear seat and install racing seats, will weigh near 900kg, and with 210hp - 220hp depending on mods (induction kit, etc (mivec version), can both out corner and outgo most things, and look good while doing it. I have one :D

Seems awfully light. I would thought thought an fto would weigh much more than that....a dc2 is difficult enough to get down to that weight.

mk2 Honda Crx, get the Vtec with the b16 engine, 160hp and 900kg standard.

Go like go karts and are very tuneable.

My last one with a k20 at 254bhp was faster than my bpu supra

That's a little misleading :D it may have been quicker through the bends, or possibly off the line, but it won't have been faster. I'd like to see a 250hp CRX top 180mph.

sorry should of mentioned it was alot faster round the bends and ran a 12.7 1/4 on shite tires, My supra ran a 13.2 at the same track.

You ran a 12.7 in a FWD 250hp car with crap tyres?

No offence mate but that's utter garbage. If you mean crap/end of life slicks then that could be feasible but there's no way you cracked that without the timing being off.

Was it crail per chance? I ran a 13.4 in my mates stock clio 182...... according to their kit. Won fastest FWD of the day.

ooo and i have a very blurry photo of it doing 165mph fastest i ever had it was 174

Again, I don't believe you. Power to weight ratio has VERY little to do with top end speed.

Can I ask what gearbox is in this car and what the rev limit is? This is coming off as serious BS now.

Google the special k. K20 Crx. Was a mk2 Crx with a k20, kpro putting out 254bhp. Yes it ran it at crail and I'll upload the blurry photo I mentioned later on ;)

I'm not interested in googling anything mate, it's simple physics. 250hp won't get you anywhere near 170mph, it has nothing to do with weight. Weight only has to do with acceleration. 290hp barely got me to a true 160mph in my MR2. Top speed is all down to friction & power, it's as simple as that. Heavier cars have a little bit more friction due to the weight creating more drag via the road, other than that it's all fair game. It could weigh 2000KG and it would still get a very similar top speed with the same power.

The co-efficient of friction required to get you to 170mph (or even close) is miles closer to a knife edge than a CRX.

With regards to the hearsay you are posting about, try removing at LEAST 10% from the speedo to get a near estimate of top speed. The speedo will also be effected by all manner of variables, which given the mods you will have to have put in place to be geared for that speed must have been extensive.

Do you have a timeslip for your claimed "crap tyres" run? Just curious on the 60ft, 0-60 and trap speed.

I would love to believe you mate, but I've seen what it takes for guys to run those times in cars like you mention and 250hp with crap tyres doesn't quite cut the mustard unless you're on a crotch rocket.

I am with Scott on this, I have owned a few civic's in my time.

EG Civic Hatch (D16)

CRX '90 (D16)

CRX Del Sol (D16)

EG Civic Hatch (B16)

EG Civic Coupe (H22) - This was the quickest with the prelude engine

EP3 Facelift Type R (K20)

Also driven the CRX SiR, Civic Jordan, Integra DC2, S2000 & the latest Type R so had a little bit of Honda history. :)

With a proper drag setup & wheels it is possible to get high 12's in the CRX with the K20 engine but not that top speed, no way.

I recently had a facelift EP3 Type R and it wouldn't budge past 145mph!! Felt very stable & smooth at that speed through.

Let me just say Abz, I have absolutely no doubts that those cars are rapido with the right setup. If someone said they managed a high 12 with decent drag tyres I would have no problems believing it, in fact there is plenty of evidence of this fact, saying that it was done on off tyres is just ridiculous IMO though.

Edit: I just thought of a fanastic comparison to my point. Check out the 245hp arial atom times & top speeds. 600kg with a 0-60 of less than 3 seconds. The older ones also share, I believe, the K20 and 6sp honda box? I'm not going to spoil the surprise by listing the top speed or 1/4 mile time. All of which are using good grippy tyres.
