Lurch
Hello people, Unfortunately in the very near future I am going to have to sell my supra to free up some debt that I have from being made redundent and out of work for a year (Back working now luckily). So When the supra's sold, I'm going to treat myself to a better track car (For the road as well) because I have to have some sort of toy for myself. I currently have a 306 gti6, but I wanted something either lighter and faster or something alot faster. My budget is around the £1500 mark and for that amount of money I have been looking at a 205 gti (800kgs) with a gti6 engine and throttle bodies incl rollcage bucket seat etc. But more recently I have been looking at Nissan pulsars for not much more money. Which one would you choose and why? And What else?
TubbyTwo
Mr2 turbo. With a few basic mods they are weapons.
Lurch
Can you pick them up that cheap now? Whats the weight of them?

Supra Gaz
I'm for the MR2 Turbo, lightweight, quick, cheap mods, perfect weight distribution and most importantly, rear wheel drive.
Lurch
Hmm, hadn't thought about an mr2 before, had a quick look on ebay and theres a few bargain bangers on there which will be perfect to turn into a track car. Plus there quite good looking cars and I can still go to meets with it. Only 1200kgs as well! I think the power would have to be around 250bhp to compete with the 205, but thats easy to get to. Definatly one to think about!
Josh42
Dc2 integra
j_jza80
I'd avoid Pulsars as the gearboxes are supposed to be very weak - not ideal for a track car. What about a Soarer? Come in 1JZ TT, 2JZ and V8 and all are available for your budget. If not, I'd be looking at MR2s or MX5s. I would also recommend the Integra, though it'll be an Si or SiR model on your budget. Swampy442
TT soarers weight 1680 kilos mate, not ideal track fodder lol. I just bought a Saab 900 turbo, and it's rapid, surprised me lol. It's fwd but it doesnt half go and handle.
Benjy
I had a Primera GT, set up for track days, and it would anihilate M3's(in the corners). 226bhp, dropped on its botty, strengthened offside driveshaft, and it's the most fun I've had on the track. The cornering was un-natural!
Ian W
It'd be a ropey DC2 for that price. MR2 definitely best bang for your buck imo.
Abz
For that budget without a doubt an MR2, MX5 dude! The pulsars althought extremely quick will fall apart from the first session! Not cheap to fix either!
supraGZaerotop
ive owned 2 mr2s, one word of warning, can be very lively on the backend, awesomecars tho, so snug and perfect driving machines, Hmm, hadn't thought about an mr2 before, had a quick look on ebay and theres a few bargain bangers on there which will be perfect to turn into a track car. Lurch
The intregra is a bit out of my price range. I think if I was going to go fwd I'd go 205 with a gti6 lump. I didn't know the pulsars were that bad! Thought they were as good as the 200sx's! (Although I did blow my 200sx gearbox up, thinking about it). Anyone know what Rev 1, 2 & 3 mean? It's fwd but it doesnt half go and handle. Why? Quite a few on here have run NA Supras, and they're not much lighter. It depends what you want, obviously a Soarer is never going to set the world alight, but it will be fun in a way that only big RWD GTs can be. It'll be mechanically dependable and parts are very cheap from breakers.
garethr
You won't find a manual Soarer for 1500 quid. Mine was £3k, and that was cheap.
Caesard
A Mitsubishi FTO. With some lightening (carbon bonnet and boot), ditch rear seat and install racing seats, will weigh near 900kg, and with 210hp - 220hp depending on mods (induction kit, etc (mivec version), can both out corner and outgo most things, and look good while doing it. I have one
TubbyTwo
MR2 turbo, downpipe, decent exhaust system, intake, chargecooler and EBC to 1 bar and you have a 270hp very rapid track car. Decent tyres brakes and suspension and a bit of skill they become very capable. Mine had blistering acceleration out of the corners and was more than fast enough to embarrass far more expenaive machinery.

ripped_fear
Another vote for the mx-5 thats what im going to treat myself to this year for a track car, Cheap and great fun too.
Lurch
I did look at the mx-5 but I think it may be that bit too small for me and I like the idea of the power of the mr2, plus its going to get a few road outings. The track thats local to me and what I will use the most if quite a small track so small and light would be ideal. I wouldn't mind a kit car, but there out of my price range. Stu-R
mk2 Honda Crx, get the Vtec with the b16 engine, 160hp and 900kg standard. Go like go karts and are very tuneable. My last one with a k20 at 254bhp was faster than my bpu supra
