I thought the noise was down to a dodgy tensioner pulley, but after changing that the noise is still there.I sprayed the shaft behind the power steering pully with a silicone lubricant and the noise stopped for a fiew seconds. What is actually wrong with the pump.I presume there is a bearing sat in there that has descided its time it wants to be changed.

that was supposed to of been renewed rescently so i wouldnt of thought so.

Might be best to just double check mate, I thought I had a dodgy pulley who made noise now and then but it turned out to be the crank pulley. Take it you already know about the tipex test to see if it has moved.

Old thread I know but thought I may as well reply to this rather than start a new one.

I also have a whine once the car is fired up and until I turn it off, stationary or moving.

Tipex test came out all clear so the crank pulley is ok. It sounds like its coming from the power steering pump, best description without recording it would be it sounds like a bag of marbles spinning round.

Sprayed the belt and it stopped for afew seconds then gradually it came back.

How does spraying the belt stop the whine for afew seconds if the damage is internal to the pump?

Brendan, did you change your pump in the end?

Cheers
