Well people im after a pay rise from my company,

im a lift engineer and a leed engineer at a presteage site have 2 engineers that i have to keep in check and keep the client happy (hard to do with some types of people)

any way the tester/supervisor has not long left the company and im being dragged out to do all other sorts of fault finding with equipment that the other engineers cant do that are on the same pay and feel i deserve more.

But as alot of you may know i am not one with words and just speak my mind and the trueth which in real life dont get you far at all.

so how would you go about asking for a rise

or do you think im out of order asking for one

Snap, just as I was about to get a raise in feb one of the Partners passed away and everything has gone a bit uncertain.

Grand!

Just speak to your boss, I dont think asking for a payrise is unreasonable, the cost of living is going up and up. Dont ask dont get.

How long have you been doing these extra activities? You should probably give it some time, make sure you are handling the extra work and doing a demonstratable good job then approach your manager and say you would like to discuss your salary levels in relation to your responsibilities. Either verbally or in writing (which I know you struggle with) but you should be able to cleary demonstrate what you are doing well above the expected level of your role, add things like you took the extra responsibility without complaint, you have managed well etc etc. Just doing it from the start probably won't get you anywhere unless its a very significant role change.

If that doesn't work, turn it around to your manager and ask what is expected of you and what do you have to do to qualify for a payrise (in a I wish to improve manner, not in an aggressive way). You may get nothing back, in which case you probably work for a company that doesn't value its employees so it will be up to you whether to accept it or move on.

not from my robbing company i have been here 12 years im at a site and run it all so they dont even notice what i do here from a small global company if we lost this site im at we would close in the uk, managment is shocking at the end of the day there is no one else that can do what i can do on the company.

its been about 3 months of the extra tasks,

its not really that about the tasks its its been so long now without a pay rise we are under every other company pay line

Just try be honest and state your extra workload how you have improved since before your last raise but mainly be reasonable and if it seems like you are getting nowhere be up for negotiation as a little from each sides adds up to be a fair bit extra over the course of a year/your career even if you don't get the full amount extra you were looking for.

If you still get told no ask what you need to do or improved to get to the stage where you can earn more so you have your set targets to reach in the future, As long as you can be rational and don't kick off you should be fine.

There is always the opportunity to look elsewhere for work and if you are worth your weight then the fact they could lose you normally sparks a change in your wage structure as you are a valuable worker.

I would like to refer you to "Fight Club".

Do what that chap does (beat the f*** out of yourself in your bosses office) and then tell him if he doesn't give you a raise, then you'll do him for GBH. Worked on the film anyway

Why don't you ask to become the new tester/supervisor if that's was/is a higher paying job?

Or better yet, ask to become an engineer manager if one doesn't already exist. This role would then incorporate everything you are currently doing. It's worth a mention to your boss, even if he dismisses it, you will hopefully have planted the seed. Plus it shows you have ambition. :)
