l.chris97
Guys i recently bought all 4 uk spec calipers to upgrade f rom my nackered j-spec...when the calipers landed 3 three of them were in the factory colour and one of the fronts is in the bare silver metal with no coating at all....does anyone know if they are powder coated to get the factory finish or how is it achived i really dont want a silver caliper sticking out compared to the rest... also can powder coating be done without wrecting the seals or piston boots on the caliper... any info on this would be great. Josh
To make it easier, why not paint all the calipers the same colour? I got a tin of straight to rust satin black paint from B&Q and used about £1 worth of it to do all 4.
l.chris97
Was thinking that josh just seems a pity to paint over the other 3 when the finish is as good as new...might be my only way of getting a match now.
Dnk
Before you start have you checked the outer seals thoroughly, have they ever been replaced ? I did these but they were stripped totally and refurbed properly with all new seals, these were powdercoated and then fitted with new seals. l.chris97
Yeah the calipers are all new refurbs so the seals etc should all be new...those look good mate....powder coating....is there alot of heat generated that would affect the seals in the caliper. Dnk
Thats good news then if they have new seals To powder coat them so they come out like the ones in the pictures you need to remove all the old paint etc which means chemically stripping them in Phosphoric acid. To do this you need to do as i did above as there are 2 seals that sit between the 2 halves of the caliper. I'd go for cleaning them up as best you can by hand and paint them with caliper paint or Josh's cheap way with BBQ paint Edited March 8, 2012 by Dnk (see edit history)
