Graham1984
I was tempted with the HID kit but to save time and any potential mot issues in the future I will just stick with normal bulbs. From the other threads I have gathered I need 9005 HB3 fitting for my NA dipped beams, can anyone recommend any of these at all or any decent standard replacement bulbs to get (pref not the yellow look if possible) Also what needs trimming to make them fit as well as I was looking at a thread about it earlier but have sod all idea what it was on about...... see my sig for full details. Many thanks. Edit: I did start a thread about this before but it turned into a HID discussion instead.
Graham1984
Surprised nobody has shown up even if it was just to slate me for asking.
dude
I would go for HID's
Multics
Best halogen bulbs I've tried are the Osram Nightbreaker Plus.
Gaz6002
Use night vision. Just push the red button when it's dark. Besides, NAs can't go fast enough to actually hurt humans or the wider environment. That's what this bloke called Graham told me anyway.
Graham1984
Would the night breakers be these by any chance?? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Osram-HB3-9005-Nightbreaker-Plus-Headlight-Bulbs-Pair-/251011969030?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item3a717ab006#ht_1380wt_1054 The main bit I am not sure on is if these are a direct swap or not after reading about people modifying some bulbs for them to fit?? Ross C
Go for 4300k hids graham. Ive never had any issues with my 6000ks but if i could choose again i'd go for the 4300 or 5000k
Graham1984
I thought they were all having to have washers and/or self levellers as quite frankly I would rather not bother if that is the case. The other reason why I don't want Hids is due to not being able to work and being severely in debt and I don't want to buy shome cheap crappy set that go wrong I would rather just get bulbs as anything would be better than what I have at the moment. dude
The bulbs in the thread are £25 I just paid £29 for HID;s

Rob
D'you know what, I just put the Ultra Brite ones from Halfords in, in dipped, fog and beam, and they're really, really good. Plus its BOGOF on all their bulbs. You have to fiddle about trimming off the black tabs to the right size but you'd have to do that with anyones bulbs if they weren't the Jap ones. I have these on mine and they look very white, lighting the road up perfectly
Abz
I know you said you don't want to go the HID route, but I'd highly recommend them. Only a few quid more expensive than the standard bulbs, but the performance difference between them is massive! I run 4300K's on my car, and although they look a little blue in pictures, they are actually brilliant white. Here is a comparison (admit not the best), of a stock bulb and my 4300K HID's. Looks a little blue here, but it is very clear. See how yellow the stock bulbs look.
Gaz6002
I think I'd sooner cut my own peanarse off than fit an HID kit that pissed people off
Abz
I think I'd sooner cut my own peanarse off than fit an HID kit that pissed people off Don't worry, this has been adjusted to ensure the light is nice and low. I waiting to have a kit made so then I can manually adjust from inside the car, making use of the UK Spec headlight motors. Stock bulbs in not great condition headlights I found are as usual as using candle lights.
Graham1984
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Osram-Night-Breaker-Extreme-Sidelights/dp/B005M2E2SM/ref=pd_rhf_se_p_t_1 That is what I was going to use which is the same ones power bulbs suggest just cheaper, I have found them earlier and I think I have a £20 amazon voucher somewhere which suits me fine seeing as a tramp has more money than me at the moment. On the power bulbs thread on here there was a light comparison on there and these looked fine anyway, I can't say I am too fussed about the colour or look at the moment as money is such an issue thankfully for only another month or so and anyway my bulbs are borderline dangerously pants so surely something is better than nothing. Josh
I better start a wanted torches thread then I've got a torch that you put little plastic caps on the end and it creates shapes. It's yours for £20, plus £1 for each cap. I like the Batman one, and so do other road users

I bought some of those for my mum's Cavalier, as she never liked driving in the dark, and we were mightily impressed with those too. If I had to go back to normal bulbs (if these rumours of HIDs is true), then I doubt I'd be that unhappy about it. I use 4200K HIDs, and they are amazing IMO. Highly recommended. Get some LED bulbs in there. Are LEDs in comparison to HIDs now, then? If they are ' MOT legal', then that could be another option. I'd imagine they aren't cheap though. Well, when I bought my HID's, I also bought some LED's just out of curiosity. For a fiver! So, I put some of these in. They were surprisingly good. MUCH brighter than stock. But not as bright as HID. Lit up instantly though.
AndrewOW
If my car fails on the HIDs, then I know what I'm going to replace them with! Assuming they are also legal. LED technology finally catches up. Excellent.
