Today I recieved a letter from SRJ Dept recoveries

They got my name & address correct

I googled the phone number & found out its a telepest number

I have read many posts elswhere about this & still not sure what to do!

SRJ are a legal company But dont want to ring it incase it is a scam.

The letter said :

We have made enquiries for confirmation of your current place of residence, information has been received confirming that your address details have changed to this address.

Due to data protection legislation details of the account are not included in this letter.

Please call immediatly 08453137203, quoting the above refrence for more information.

Yours Sincerely

(poorly scanned squigly signature)

SRJ

Ring them, when they want to "confirm that it's you" simply give them false information (other than your address and what they have already said they have from the letter you got). Basically lie about everything that they don't know. If they say that the information you are giving them is correct then that's a sure sign that they are at it.

I used to do this regularly with the "your paypal account may have been compromised" type emails. I would log in with various insulting usernames and passwords, each time I was thanked for logging in :D

 what if there's a massive charge for the call? That's one of the ways this sort of scam makes money.

He said he googled it and found it's a telepest no, I should have said to ring the non 0845 variant but I don't see this as being the angle here.

Use the work phone :D

Is there not a cap on 0845 numbers anyway? I thought it was 10p.

Good point, it is an 0845 number... use a work phone then :D

Are you expecting a letter from them? If not then don't worry, if you are worried then write to them.

A name and address can be easily retrived.
