J-Spec TT Auto - brake substitutes

Anybody recommend good makes for disks, calipers and pads?

This is not a case where money is not an issues coz it is.

Not to necessarily upgrade to JGTC standards but something that will do the the same or better job without me having to pay through the nose. Not UK Spec coz they may not fit with my wheels.

I fear I may have knackered my disks after going bpu.

Cheers chaps.

Cheers Chris nice one. If the disks are warped I may try to get em skimmed or summink.

What were the options for your CW pads mate? You mentioned that you would get intermediate next time. Is there like a normal, fast and jet plane spec for the pads?

All the best

Justin,

Yeah after stock there are the intermediate and if i remember rightly CW has just started using a new one that does not squeal, I think Peter Sharp has these on UK Brake set up and i beleive were a great improvement over stock pads.

Mine are the Race pads (The Squealers), they do the job very well, in fact i couldnt believe the difference, they still need more pedal effort than UK brakes or brakes with uprated brake lines however when they bite they bite big time and they keep working with no fade. (Dont know how thin my discs might be now though :p )

I thought i could cope with the squeal but sometimes they are scary, especially when all four start singing.

As several people have had good results from the intermediate pads i will go for them next time (Not much difference in price) or i may consider a different brake set up although not sure which one, Its a big outlay but would achieve excellant results as you already know.

Regards

Chris

Extremely expensive (you can't imagine) and not suitable for the road. I can't imagine why anybody uses more than UK spec with good pads on the road. Serious track day use is a different matter. Any decent caliper is going to be bigger than those nasty J-spec sliding things. Don't rule out UK calipers if you haven't measured the fit.

Agree with you there John, but me wheels won't fit over UK brakes :(

Turns out that front discs are probably still OK as Terminator kindly spent 3 hours with his warpiness measuring gauge gramaphone styley thing on em. The front left shock looks shot which I hope is causing the nasty vibes. The rear disks look totally fooked though :(

The three hours were not just spent on the warpiness measuring with a dial gauge, some time was also spent getting intimate with the underside of Justins car looking for loose bits that may cause wobbly things to happen at the front at speed.

His rears are soooooo shagged that they may be the cause of judder under braking. If you get new discs Justin I would like to use yours as a pair of bird baths, the groves in your discs would hold a fair bit of water.

I can confirm that there is no way Justin’s wheels will fit over the UK brakes.

BTW Justin I still have your silver thing in my garage, you need to get it.

Apologies to all non techies out there but you have to use the correct terms when working on Justin’s car.:flame Dev
