Headlight differences

Could someone please clarify the difference in headlight units and the options available to replace the yellow plastic ones on my pre-facelift j-spec Supra. I would like to change them to glass.

Are the facelift and pre-facelift lights a different shape?

Are the bulbs different or can I modify the existing ones?

J spec- Plastic lenses, chrome insides, normally fade

 

Facelift Plastic lenses- Black insides, chrome rings, no side light.

 

UK- Glass lenses, chrome insides differnt shape lenses to j specs.

 

Uk spec take different bulbs to j specs.

Go for the glass UK - much better than any of the J-spec IMO. Speak to Steve Manley (see the thread here and mention my name.

I have some UK headlights. They just look awesome

 

Although the sidelight in the drivers side one is very dim

Now I am going to show my ignorance as only I seem capable of on this forum (although I do know where the boot release lever is), can I put UK glass headlights on my pre-facelift j-spec, because that is what I really want to do

Yep I have uk's in mine thanks to the previous owner, you MAY need the uk loom though but don't quote me on that,i think its just the facelift ones you need the looms for.

Just a note, the facelift inner housings are dark metallic grey not black.

 

The facelift headlights do not yellow as quickly as the pre-facelift headlights, I think this is due to the different coloured inner housings.

I have been quoted a little over £350 for the glass headlights and replacement bulbs, all in including VAT. That seems pretty reasonable to me, am I right?

You won't need to change the looms, the bulbs will fit but the low beam bulbs are slightly narrower so may not seal properly, best to replace with 9006 bulbs.
