spidermonkey
Hi all, while doing some routine maintenance I have decided the rad cap needs to be changed, while removing the old cap the spring loaded seal has perished and has dropped the front guide into the radiator. I have tried to grab hold of the offending item with long nose pliers but due to it being almost exactly the same size as the rad opening I have failed miserably, my question is how can I remove the said object, can I leave it in there or will I be able to flush it through the system without it getting stuck in the internals. Any help would be greatly appreciated
Swampy442
It wont flush out, if you look inside the rad you'll see why. Best persevere and try and get it out, but if you left it in there it wouldnt go anywhere.
spidermonkey
I'll have another go at removing this in that case, thanks for the answer.
Josh
Are you just changing the cap or the coolant as well? If the coolant as well, then take the rad out and turn it upside down to make it easier.
spidermonkey
I may have to go down that route, thanks for the answer.
Scott
Is it a hoop? If so get a wire coat hanger and make a hook (or other wire). If not then a set of mechanical fingers will probably be your best bet.

spidermonkey
Its a solid piece of plastic with no hole, the big problem is that it's almost the same size as the hole it needs to go through so it needs to be dragged through, long nose pliers don't seem to be up to the job as I can't get enough grip! Thanks for the ideas though
Dnk
This may sound bonkers but if you can get it with long nose pliers and hold it right up in the neck of the rad and then use long nose mole grips to properly grab it, use one of those mini snap on style blow torches and heat up the plastic to soften it which should let you pull it through the hole.
