I would like to throw my support (for what its worth) behind Branners on this one.

The mods management of traders and people wanting so sell/provide services not only protects the finances of the club but also protects the members. There have been numerous times when 'respected' members of the forum (or at least members with a high post count) start touting/offering services and then go AWOL with money or having sent naff goods. Just look at the dispute threads of do a search for guys that have recently been kicked. The idea of letting any idiot tout their wares scares me half to death.

Keep up the good work guys :)

Surely the people offering their services and wares can't be any more dangerous than buying from the for sale section as half of it comes down to a dodgy mix of faith,Luck and trust anyway when buying and selling. Sadly to counter that I think the traders section and advertising rules are right as although there maybe the odd thing that doesn't seam like such a problem (photography ect) it kind of stiffs the traders who pay full whack and got where they are through repeatedly good business rather than shooter and Nizam for example returning with likewise people to appear okay and then stiff members causing more disputes for mods to sort out, or hear others moan about when the club has had no financial benefit from it minus the odd £10 membership fee here and there although my betting is they would rather keep a tight ship and avoid the agro over the minor cash gain. The traders I have spoken to have been a great help for advice (stonkin and dude have given me their knowledge and time) as have the members too (Scott M, Neil-NA, Noz) but that won't always be the case with others wanting to earn a quick buck over contributing knowledge to the forum as a whole so in some respects if it ain't broke why fix it might be best to apply.

On a personal note when Nizam takes over from Branners it will be hilarious for all of 5minutes :D

You have a point, but....people offering services are not offering 'one offs' like on the for sale section. By allowing people to offer services the club are effectively condoning their offering. Traders have to jump through hoops set by the Mods to ensure people want the traders, the traders are trust worthy and this adds a degree of protection for us. Letting people trade often without those hoops simply opens up the scheme to abuse.

Of course, just becuase they are a trader doesn't mean they are not going to cause problems. Look at the problems I and others had with Envy when they were allowed to trade.

Exactly and in a bad way that was my point as I read the rules for being a trader the other night and as long as you are a genuine customer as a club member and you get a genuine bad experience with the trader the club supports the members first which unlike a hobbyist trader I doubt they have any work premises checked out or the chance as phantom customers, At least then we as customers get some support over any old address a non approved trader could have to mail items to which would be dangerous as they can just drum up loads of business or get wheels for example sent to them and clear off with cash and goods any time they want to leaving us all hacked off with no support or comeback.

Like you said authorised traders could still screw you over but at least on the plus side they have a set premises of business so are less likely to up and go overnight...... Plus we can all get dude in a headlock and nipple cripple him....... That will teach him.
