tooquicktostop
Not sure on your budget but the best two have to be these, both owned by The Dorchester Group, The Le Meurice is stunning http://www.plaza-athenee-paris.com/ http://www.lemeurice.com/

Dnk
I've found 4 star Le 123 Elysees on the Champs-Elysees for just under £200 a night in May which looks pretty good ?
DamanC
Also don't stay in the business district - Nice hotels at a good price @ weekends - Miles away from the fun!
Gaz6002
The Latin Quarter is a good place to stay at weekends.

keener
I took the Mrs to http://www.hotel-west-end.com/ for our first anniversary. Brilliant hotel, walking distance to everything, just off the Champs Elysees so quiet streets. (There was a hotel round the corner that had all kinds of auto stars to gawp at as well - kept me happy pointing out all the Ferraris, Porsches, Veyron etc to the Mrs )

Shane
Dunk, I spend a fair bit of time working in Paris and have stayed at loads of different hotels all over the 17th and surrounding areas, there are some real shockers and because often no two stays are the same, it makes me a little hesitant in recommending hotels. If you are staying in May, then AC is going to be a must, but at your budget you would be expecting that anyhow. One of the hotels with a more consistent level of service we use is: http://www.hotellavoisier.com/#//2 most of the guys I send out on a regular basis like to stay here as a first choice. Also, knowing you are a wine buff, pop in and see my mate Bernard and sample some of his specials together with some authentic cuisine from the Auvergne region: http://www.aveyron.com/parisien/chavignol.html If you do and you get opportunity to speak with him (if he is there he will almost certainly come to your table at least once) tell him that Shane and Martin Dupre recommended that you paid him a visit. It does get very busy though and it is a very small place.
Dnk
Thanks for the info Shane I like the look of Au Petit Chavignol, sounds like my kind of place and would book a table in advance if this trip actually happens.
keener
Sorry, forgot to put on my post that Hotel West End had some fab deals on when we stayed so it was only £200 per night! Keep an eye out if they do similar soon! We then spent more on eating and drinking too but still got ripped off for wine in the Lido! Dnk
Wine when you buy it in a restaurant is always a rip off but what can you do other than not drink it. I agree with you though on spending more on the eating and drinking rather than the sleeping bit A local restaurant sells a very nice Pinot Grigio but its £17 a bottle, i can buy it for £4.50 a bottle from a wholesaler i know
Dnk
Well my plans have changed just a little and im not going to Paris but will be going to sunny Moscow instead Thanks for all the advice and info though guys and hopefully in the near future we'll be going there so wasn't a wasted exercise. Has anyone been to Moscow and got any advice or recommend any hotels etc, its appears to be quite expensive, my friend just landed a new job and cant take time off to go to Paris I've found some good cheap flights going via Amsterdam and think i've got a good place to sort a tourist visa out without me having to go to the Russian embassy so just where to stay !! SupraStar 3000
As soon as they hear your accent, most russians will double the price of anything unless you have a Russian guide or friend that speaks Russian. I'd love to go to Moscow and Stalingrad some time.
