Dnk
I guess i shall be doing the same as i did last year and phone them to cancel my membership and see if they want to keep my business or not. It was £175 last year and i said im not paying that when a new member can have the same cover for £105 ! So much for looking after your excisting customers, I've been with them for 15 + years. Last year they said as gesture of good will they will charge me £105 so i stayed with them. This year they want £187.18 ! I can get the same cover from the RAC for £128 or Green Flag for £118 so will be calling them in the near future to discuss Anyone use Green Flag or the RAC ? are you happy with their service as i admit the AA have been pretty good whenever i've needed them

Steve
I have the same issue every year. After a quick phone call they always drop to the new customer price, I was even told by them that they encourage people to call each year to ensure the better price is given. They didn't seem to understand when I said why dont you just give me the best price in the first place!

stevie_b
I've been with the RAC for several years. Happy with their service, but they probably play the same games when it comes to renewal time.

Dnk
I've just looked on the AA site and Roadside Assistance Help in an accident Homestart National Recovery Me covered in any vehicle is £110 !
Nodalmighty
I get all the AA cover options (Home Start, Relay, Roadside, etc.), as well as mobile phone, travel (inc winter sports), emergency home cover insurance, card sentinel and a bunch of other stuff for £25 a month on my LloydsTSB Premier account. Who do you bank with? Lyndon.
neil tt
The problem is that works out at £300, and having a Soarer can't afford to go anywhere, so the other insurances are no use ;

Lbm
I tend to get my roadside assistance services when I insure my cars, and so I use their providers. It's between £60 and £100 per year. I certainly wouldn't pay for all the other add-on fluff I'm unlikey to use, or more importantly, even remember to use

So if I was a passenger in your car & it broke down in Scotland, they'd bring it down to London with us both. Believe also provide hire cars as well. AJI
Do you guys who have breakdown cover for UK driving see it as 'worth it'? I've never seen the value for money aspect on these AA and RAC breakdown covers yet. I guess its because my daily commute is only 9miles and if my car won't start then I either fix it myself or call the local mechanic out. But I suppose if your commute is a long one and your job depends on you being at a place and time, then it may be worth the money.

If you dont go anywhere then no its not worth having Last year i used the AA as i needed a trailer i was towing recovering from near the M56 down to B'ham which is over 100 miles one way, to get that done privately would have been way more than the £105 i paid the AA for last year. Your paying for peace of mind really and if you go to a few car shows up and down the country its cheap if you consider what you get and what it would cost privately if you needed your car recovering, especially if your sat on the motorway. I might not bother with the homestart now and just have the relay and roadside cover.

Exactly, when my crank pulley came off, I had AA collect it for me the following day & then get it sent to Supraturbochris's house 15 miles away to sort it out. A low trailer would have cost me at least £70. Also used it when my brother in law broke down near my house to get his car back to the dealer he brought it from 25 miles from here. snake
I left the AA after 10 years as they wanted stupid money for cover. I then joined the RAC at half the price and after two years they wanted me to pay more than a "new customer" [i think not]. I suggested to them they should try and keep the customers they already have. After much chit chat they said they would do me a favour and charge me the new customer rate, but only for the current year [i was spoken to with a sarcastic attitude]. I replied As far as i am concerned i am paying for a service i hope never to use, so i can always pay someone else like green flag for them to give me a service i hope i don't ever use. Lets see what happens this year

I shall give the AA the chance to keep my business but unless its at the rate i found on the website i shall cancel and go elsewhere
barneybrendan
i just had my renewal £140 .just rang them to say im leaving as i can get same cover for £75 with rac.Amazing how quickly the guy said aa can match that so job done.
Dnk
Well i've just got off the phone to the AA and gone down the same rd as last year, i shan't go into the full conversation but the AA really do need to wake up as the bullshit i just had from one of their sales team was laughable. Kept repeating i get better service etc than a new member hence i pay more, it took me quite a few times telling him to cancel the renewal of my policy or match the new members price before his supervisor agreed they would match the price, i cancelled the home start but kept the rest and just slashed over £110 off my bill. neo2810
I get free RAC cover through my bank (I say free, but I have a premium account so it's a chargeable benefit I guess). I've used them several times over the years on several vehicles (including the Sup) and they've always been excellent.
SteveR
I use AutoAid. £38/year, covers everything: any car, me or the wife driving. AutoAid Breakdown wide-ranging cover includes: Roadside assistance Car and passenger recovery service to any UK destination Home breakdowns* Emergency travel or overnight accommodation Cover for caravans and small trailers Cover for theft and vandalism * = "The maximum reimbursement under this benefit is ONLY £65" The only 'snag' is you have to pay for the bloke who comes out after you call in to report a breakdown, but then you get the money back from AutoAid within 14 days - it's basically an insurance scheme that uses their own approved providers, often the same people the AA/RAC would send out. Used them once so far and they were brilliant. For £38/year you can't argue.
