Tricky-Ricky
Sorry fella but in all honesty its your own fault, if i was your mate, and despite your generosity, i would be offended if you tried to hold me responsible in any way, you agreed to lend the cash, and he paid it back as agreed, what you do with the money afterwords ceases to be any of his responsibility, if he had paid it into your account and got it wrong then thats a different scenario altogether. benkei
Just been speaking to a colleague of mine who deals with payments. Are your bank and your friend's bank different banks? As this will make it more difficult. Also, who has it taken so long? If the bank was made aware of the error straight away then I don't see why they wouldn't have corrected it... Wez
This is between the sender and the bank, the way I see it he shouldn't be footing the bill and shouldn't have to, this is a simple mistake that I am sure is quite common, the problem here is its gone on for so long. I certainly wouldn't let it go, its your money and anyone taking claim to it is stealing which is a criminal offence, if the banks are failing you go to the financial ombudsman and the police. Ian W
C. This. That said, I'd be giving the bank hell.
merckx
That's so easy to do, absolute madness that the name on the account isn't checked. Of course it's not your mates fault. But if I was he I would feel in some way responsible and would share some of your financial loss, there's no way I would let you lose the full £1500. hogmaw
Update - I've got the ombudsman on the case. But that's not the end, they can only help out if it's the bank that's at fault, which is debateable because they may argue they were instructed to pay the money into an account, which they did. What safeguards are in place to make sure it's the correct account, and if they are accountable if it's the wrong account, is up to the ombudsman to decide. It can take up to 8 weeks for the bank to reply, so time drags on...
tbourner
6 months!! Even if the Police/FOD can do anything I'd expect that money's gone into the pockets of Tiffanys/Dominos/MissWhiplash by now.
RobSheffield
Was the transfer made by an actual bank transfer or by him popping into a branch and putting it into your account? I have done the latter on here to avoid teller transfer fees that used to exist when paying someone, but always triple checked the account details. dude
Its amazing that if you found the £1500 in the street it would be theft by finding !!!!
