I haven't seen the Nexus in the flesh, so I don't know - but the S2 is brilliant.

Google their specs etc and do a comparison - Also put in 'Samsung Galaxy S2 v Nexus'. Geekanoidy people will already have your answer lurking in cyberspace.

Perhaps nip into a Phones 4U and pick them both up have a look and a feel etc :)

thats the problem with online reviews

While the Galaxy S2 has microSD support up to 32GB we’re not yet certain about the Galaxy Nexus as conflicting sources suggest either the same support as the Galaxy S2 or none whatsoever. We’ll update when we have a clearer picture.

so they have either made the review before the phones out or not even seen one

ive read another review that says the camera and recording on the nexus is one of the best they have seen

i guess whichever i pick from the 2 doesnt matter

I've noticed with my S2 that it seems to have slowed right down compared to when I bought it about 6 months ago. Don't have that may saved apps on it but when loading games or using the internet it takes noticeably longer - couple of mates have also noticed the same thing too. Im guessing there is a fix though.....just I haven't found it yet!

Not intentionally Ash, but I've noticed there seems to be a few random ones running in the background but everytime I shut them down they start up again!

How are you shutting them down?

The home key doesn't do this.

Either use your back button or go into the task killer and cancel from there :)

I've had mine nearly 9 months and I don't have any speed issues.

Android manages its own tasks.... If it needs extra ram it stops a process and starts it again. Check apps like Facebook etc, these are the main culprits.

OT...

I'm running a SGS with ICS on and got chance to compare it directly with a nexus the other week. The phone it's self is a little bigger than the SGS. The rom I am running was actually quicker than the nexus! It doesn't have an expansion slot for an external card either.

Personally, like the first nexus was the leader until the SGS came out.... I think you should hold off and wait for the next gen, ie 4g phones, sgs3, ect come out later this year. IMHO they are going to be the ones worth getting and That's what I'm doing.

As with all phones, there is always a new model on the horizon. I would say go for something you will want to keep for 2 years. Any hint of doubt, don't get it!

Thanks mate, I do use the home key a lot but go into the task manager and click exit all a few times a day at least. Tis a mystery, Il have a scout round the net this evening when I get to my laptop and see what other people say. Im guessing its just running lots of background processes, most of which I probably don't need!

Go to market and download task manager. Use its widget in ur main screen which is kills/stops all ur unnecessary running apps. Speeds up ur phone aswell

Don't do this.

The bog standard task manager works just fine, and although it's absolutely pointless on an SGS2 it makes people feel like they are doing something to increase speed. There's no harm in it, other than using battery power while physically bashing the buttons to do so, so I say go for it :)

Remember when going into the task killer to clear the ram as well, if this is what you want to do. This will close any hidden background operations that are using the ram (rather than just apps themselves). There may be something in there that's chewing up your speed.

Personally I don't keep anything on my phone that I don't use. If it didn't come with the samsung firmware (and therefor can't be removed) or if I don't use it, then it simply isn't on my phone. I de-guff my phone every month or 2.

Edit: I also keep up to date with firmware updates etc etc. I toyed around with custom firmware but with the official ICS around the corner in a week or 2 I wouldn't bother at the moment :)

Creative's advice has been your best mate. Either wait, the SGS3 launch was pulled which is better than rolling out a duff product, or make sure you pick the phone that will keep you happy for 18 months / 2 years.

I did find the SGS2 to be better than the previous Nexus / Google phone when I was shopping around. The absolute fixer for me was the external memory.

High quality video and music takes memory and a couple of SD cards comes in handy on holiday / long trips.

Couple of owner niggles.

1. Not obvious to everyone how to upgrade the firmware. This led the missus to send her SGS2 back. :)It was freezing and the battery was running out very quickly. Vodafone serviced it, upgraded the firmware and sent it back. Very fast and no freeze. :D

2. As mentioned, not obvious which apps are running / slowing the phone down, maybe ice cream sandwich will fix that.

Non niggles.

Endless fun, loads of extras like cases, (I have a casemate barely there black aluminum case on a white SGS2 and it looks fantastic.) 32Gb memory cards are cheap now, there are so many helpful forums if you do hit a snag.

And hundreds of other things that I haven't even tried. :)
