T2 MSW
Does anyone know when the public track times for the ring are released post July? Looking to plan my stag do but can't work out what weekends are free if any at the min?!
AJI
The new management that are slowly but surely ruining the whole Nurburgring experience are only releasing dates as and when they please and not in the traditional sense of when people need to know so they can plan ahead. So July is only as far as they go for now. Basically the new operators are viewing the manufacturer track times as being more important than public open days and so they are more than likely leaving the track 'open' and non-committed in waiting for manufacturers to book the track for their upcoming new model releases in which they require track time for testing. Gaz6002
Can't see tourist laps carrying on for much longer now TBH.
T2 MSW
That's stupid, they are going to ruin the whole point of it. One thing they have done that is quite neat is you can now use the F1 circuit for public time as well, think its about 40 euros for 20 mins
Ark
FWIW: http://www.burgstube.com/Ringdates2012-1.pdf Seeing as the German government is trying to oust the current management, who knows what is actually going to transpire... Mike, perhaps you could think about visiting an alternative like the Hungaroring - I've heard good reports even to the point of it being better than the Nurburgring. AJI
I think the tourist laps will be there to stay, but as the operators continually increase lap prices and continually make the whole experience more sterile, the numbers of 'tourists' will fall and the atmosphere of the whole area will change. It is already happening year on year. What is good is that the Nurburgring is facing competition from the likes of Hockenheim and a few other tracks in Europe in that you can pay for 20min sessions and take your car on to the track. All you do is sign a form and away you go. So the 'tourist' has a few options now. A good plan if you wanted to make it in to a 'holiday' would be to tour Germany and try out a few of the tracks, maybe spend a day or two at each location and then move on. Although the Nurburgring is a fantastic track to drive it is overcrowded, overpriced and doesn't allow you to drive 10/10ths. I would say of all the times I've driven there I would not have pushed myself anything over 7 or 8/10ths. But when it comes to an open F1 style track you can push your limits a lot more because when something goes wrong you have the space to correct or come to a stop without hitting anything. Something to bear in mind for your future travels maybe?
