IT Recruitment agencies & the games they play....

Basically I keep getting put forward for SQL DBA contract roles by Agency 1 (they are usually first to contact me about new roles). Now the problem is, they have said I have been put forward for a role (and that my CV was liked, just waiting for final sign-off). I have since been called by 3 other agents about the same role. 1 of those agents asked who put me forward and then came back saying that he has spoken to HR and confirmed that my CV has not been put forward. Excuse me?!?!?!

Basically the company is limiting agents to 2 candidates to per agency and the 2nd agency is saying that Agency 1 are saying that my CV has gone forward, but in fact it has not. By doing this, Agency 1 then covers most of the market and stops all the top candidates from truly competing. Now its just the 2 that they send across.

Now I am not saying this is true, I am going to call Agency 1 tomorrow and find out if my CV has gone through and confirm it through HR of the company.

Does anyone else have any experience like this?

They're generally hateful :D it's not just IT.

Agreed.

When I was running companies back here prior to moving to Kos, I was on the other side of the fence in looking for people. The recruitment agencies were a nightmare and were only interested in throwing as many people forward as possible with scant regard to our needs and what we were looking for.

I am so tired of them all!!! But the contracts pay for the GTR and it's parts, so a necessary evil.

Biggest downside to contracting....

I can't hate contracting, as that's what got me started and allowed me to fund the start of my business. Doesn't mean I can't hate the Recruitment people though :D

I am in a perm position but tempted to go contracting at the end of the year once all the projects are out of the way. My colleague left recently & his on double his salary contracting in SAN storage.

Might ask you for some advice when I do :)

Plenty of time during Dragonball (or one of your drag racing runs) to talk it over matey :)

Have to agree, especially "working from home" types. One even went really close to compromising my position in current company. I would thread carefully here with agents...

Talking about compromising my colleague who left recently was applying for jobs... and one agency was e-mail our boss about job applications for him!! He was put down as a reference on his CV, not as a contact but they were e-mailing him details of the job and salary etc! :D

Lucky our manager is pretty chilled out, he knew that he was looking and taken taking the mickey!
