supraturbochris
:-( harsh mate lol. cheers everyone for being willing to help on this. a w58 box would be handy as im buying a manual na on saturday but they arent that strong are they? how much power can they hold? you do see tt's running them time to time. JamieP
If the W58 fits then id go that way, its only 30 or so bhp more so cant see it being a problem, also with the R154 the gearing is very long i found, made my V8 feel lazy i thought, Much more fun with NA gearing i bet. garethr
There are plenty of V8 Soarers/SC400s in Oz and the US running the W58 (check on Soarer Central and Club Lexus). What I always find odd is that the Aussies seem to use the W58 behind their Holden and Ford V8s (CRS and Dellow sell kits). You'd think the torque would kill the 'box. supraturbochris
cheers for the info guys. I think i might consider the w58 gearbox rute then, so surely i would need just the bellhousing adapter? am i correct? maybe a fast road clutch too. garethr
You have the choice of bellhousing kit, 1UZ to W58 bellhousing adaptor, or A340 bellhousing to W58 adaptor. Bellhousing kit most straightforward and A340 bellhousing to W58 adaptor most complicated, do you reckon? This is a Soarer/SC400 conversion using a 1UZ auto bellhousing to W58 adaptor and hydraulic bearing clutch release: http://www.clublexus.com/forums/performance-and-maintenance/422578-ultimate-1uzfe-w58-conversion-thread-lots-of-pics.html H7ERO did a conversion in a V8 Aristo a few years ago with a Dellow bellhousing kit and R154. Guigsy
The 5 speed na box is also a very nice box to use. Far better than the 6 speed.
Abz
The 5 speed na box is also a very nice box to use. Far better than the 6 speed. After driving a 5 speed, I'd certainly agree with that!
supraturbochris
right guys im pricing up a w58 box now, so if anyone requires a r154 gearbox in good condition, let me know.
Delboy52
Would you possibly consider turbo charging your 1UZ later on? If so, would it not be a safer bet fitting the R154 while you already have one instead of the W58?
