Ian C
The little dial thingy that rotates is just a small air filter. The smaller VSVs vent built-up pressure to atmosphere when they switch.

mellonman
the is a adjusting screw that opens a butterfly valve inside the piping if this is open in anyway it will leak air at the 2nd turbo which could cause your noise, make sure this is set correctly even if it is just to aliminate it from your problem undo the screw untill there is a tiny gap under it this would then mean that the butterfly valve is fully shut. fordy_alexsupra
Try TTC like you suggested. The iacv (which you are talking about atm) will be always open and so will the 2nd turbo exhaust gas actuator just before down pipe. Whether this helps with the noise I don't know but worth a try it is a 5min job.

MAYBE i did play about with this on accident when removing all the pipe work before, im not sure as was few months ago. anyway here is how mine is set at moment.... there is about 5mm gap.... does this look set wrong?, shall i wind it all the way down to ensure the butterfly flaps inside are closed (not sure if i can set it too low) doesnt look like i can adjust it while its still on the car so may have to remove it to adjust... SupraD06
Just been out and looked at mine, and mine looks like the same sort of gap, im 100% i didn't mess with that, so mines been like that since ive had it.
mellonman
if there is a gap then thats fine, but make sure that the arm is all the way down just press it. looks like this might not be your problem if its all okay
Lude
bugger. will try put in ttc mode and see what happens
mellonman
so the arm is not touching the stopper screw right? from you picture you have marked the thread i just want to clear that up
Lude
the arm is connected to a plate, the plate then touches the screw. the screw has 5mm of thread showing then touches the metal plate, as per the pic.. ttc mode and maybe try another boost leak tester at the air filt, so it tests all that side
mellonman
okay so undo the screw until the arm does not touch the thread of the screw as i said it before , if the screw is too far up it will stop the butterfly from shutting fully and can make noises, undo the screw so the 5mm you measured is even smaller the gap has to be between the arm and the screw
Lude
put car in TTC mode today, car still does the noise. seemd slightly quieter tho, but not much (not sure if it was in my head, or just because the exuast was louder) think im going to remove the air filter, and make a boost leak tester from there, and see if any leaks show in that area. car boosts fine though just this bluddy noise
fordy_alexsupra
does the noise come in later now you are in ttc?

Lude
Tells me its coming from your 1st turbo pumbing il have a go on my vacuums now, il put the stock setuo back. ie remove boost controller. report back later
ashbuster
Definitely check that gasket that you reused mate. x2 would have been one of the first things i would have checked after the pipes because it was fine untill he had the pipes and everything apart
Lude
double checked the vacums, all ok there, i also removed the IACV housing, to check the the reed was closed, and it was. im going to do a boost leak test again next week, i couldnt do one today as didnt have a compressor. the noise does come in later/quieter when the car is in TTC though, im 75% sure of that... again, vacuums all apear fine and correct... listy
Gasket mate. Seriously, check it. Although it may have looked ok to the eye, it may have warped slightly when it came off, or even a chip in the gasket would kill it. Get a new gasket mate. At least then you have peace of mind that it can then be struck off the list of possibilities.
fordy_alexsupra
Gaskets is the only next thing indeed. The exhaust gas pressure on the first turbo has be halved, so quieter noises due to the second turbo working at the same time.
listy
I've been saying to check the gasket now for over a week on this thread and via pm. Hopefully he will soon, because the next post that says "i've rechecked the hoses and piping etc", without checking the gasket, I'll be out of trying to help, as obviously isnt listening. Worst comes to the worst, it rules it out. And as everything else seems to have been ruled out at least once, then the gasket is the next step. fordy_alexsupra
Indeed you have been ahah. Thought I'd give saying it a try.

listy
My point exactly. I think it's the only thing now that hasn't been checked.
